10th Region Cats Pause Preview

Clark vs. Mason is a very good debate. I do not think Fraysure should be bashed for ranking Mason Co. ahead of Clark because it is very close. Anybody could make a point for Clark being better or vice versa. The 10th region is between Mason and Clark only, as long as both stay away from injuries. The best player in the region is Stenzel and with Setty's big summer I'm looking for a lot of special things out of him this year. He will finally be "the man" and we will see what he does with it. When it comes down to matchups I think both teams have advantages. The pg advantage is definitely with Mason, Gilbert will cause problems with his penetration and a very good shot to go with it. The sg advantage does go to Clark but Mason's Justin Lang is very good defensively and people will be surprised. Lang will make Stenzel work for everything that he gets. According to gold sunrise Pervis now plays wing so I guess you would pencil him in the 3 spot. Mason's 3 would be Bradley Lang and Pervis would have a size advantage but Pervis is not even close to as mobile as Bradley Lang. I haven't seen Pervis play since freshman year but the kid didn't turn into Kevin Durant over night. Defensively he can not guard the 3 position. If Pervis is on Pawsat then once again he is not athletic enough to stay with Pawsat. I'm pretty sure Pawsat will be on Rogers though because he is a battler. Pawsat battled him in the finals and will hold his own because Rogers can not stay with Pawsat defensively. I know you Clark fans will say Rogers wasn't fully healthy in the finals but this is the only proof we have to go off of. Then it comes down to Zollo and Setty and I would give the edge to Setty. Well for Mason Co. to beat Clark, Setty has to have the advantage here. He has to step up and be "the man" or Clark will make it to Rupp this year. I think the benches are pretty even. I don't know much about Clark past Daniels. He is very athletic but not really much else and seemed to get really discouraged a lot. So I expect Mason to be able to cancel him out with Manship and I am really expecting big things out of Tyler Black. Tyler Black will be another key because he is capable of big things and could be starting before the season is over. Clark does have the advantage when it comes to the coaching but then the 10th region is being played at Mason (haha) so that even outs also. I expect a real battle between the two teams this year, goodluck to all!

Good post....I don't agree with everything you say, but good post. I see you mention injuries, many from Mason would not acknowledge all the injuries that GRC had last year and was not 100% for the regional finals, 3 players hurt, and 1 out for the season. Believe me that made a huge difference in the outcome.

How can you say that Gilbert will have the advantage and you have not seen Kendred play? Think you will be surprised. But the depth at PG could play a role.

How do you know that Purvis is not as mobile and cannot guard the 3 spot? He may surprise you too. He will surprise alot of people this year.

Rogers had a bad game in the finals, he couldn't see with the mask on...in the 4th he threw it off. He was out of shape , hadn't played in 6 weeks and had 2 surgeries. Cory will hold his own. What bench play does Mason have that could help out? Setty and Zollo, both very good players, this match up will be interesting. Depends on how GRC gets Zollo the ball. I know very little on Black and Manship, so I will just have to wait and see how much they contribute. Daniels gained alot of confidence this summer in AAU, he will contribute alot for GRC this year.

Again expect nothing but a great game when these 2 teams meet this year. Will be interesting to come back and see this thread and see who's predictions are right.

Setty does not come close to the talent and hustle of Zollo! Setty is not a bad player but Zollo gets the edge there. He has been getting looks from D-1 schools since his freshman year and never really got his legs under him last year. I look for him to have a break out year. As far as Robbie Stenzel, with him all you can do is try to slow him down because you are not going to stop him! I hope Mason keeps underestimating GRC all year!:sssh:

I believe where GRC holds the edge over any team in the 10th is talent, this team is loaded. Will talent win out...if all stay healthy, I believe so.

I disagree. Zollo may have gotten more attention as a freshman and a sophomore but I think that Setty has become a better player. Not taking anything from Zollo because he his a very talented players as well. Zollo may not be the best player on his team. I think that Stenzel and Setty are the best two players in their class.

Setty will put up huge numbers during his junior season. He is a major inside/outside threat. He shoots the 3 at a very high percentage, has really improved his ability to use the bounce and has very good post game. I also believe that he has become a pretty good defender and understands how to use his length.

In my opinion Setty will challenge for Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky as a senior.

Setty has been getting just as many looks. :thumb:

Let the games begin and hopefully an injury free and SICKNESS free year.

Defense will be the key this year. The teams have plenty of offensive firepower. Matchups are useless because defense is TEAM defense. DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE!

I am not sure where this kid has been the last three years but I hope he lives up to the expectations that seem to be put on his shoulders! I haven't seen the dominance that the Mason faithful obviously have. This GRC team has the look of a team with something special about them and I hope they begin to prove it one game at a time until March! By then all the hype will be records in the book and that is when the region will be decided! Let's play ball! :ylsuper:

I agree with you 100% here. I have seen both play on several occasions. While I like Zollo and have for a couple of years, I think the ceiling on Setty may be higher and he is approaching it.

I have also seen both play alot in AAU this summer. Setty got a slow start and was on several AAU teams. He didn't really look good until the AAU tourney in Vegas. Where he looked very good. Vinny had a really great summer with the Indian Elite team, which is loaded with talent. Both are great players in thier own right and both will play high D-1. I enjoy watching both players and will support both in which ever college team they choose to play for. :thumb: Just as I have supported Preston Knowles, Darius Miller, Chris Lofton, Keaton Belcher ect. Very poud of OUR 10th region boys.

Has Setty added any weight since last year? He needs to bulk up some to be an effective player at the next level.

He is only a high school junior, two more years to mature physically. It is very possible that both Setty and Zollo could grow a few more inches before college.

Yes. He is a very high caliber player.

I saw him play in several AAU games this summer and he is still thin. I agree he does need to bulk up for the next level.
