They should have gotten three touchdowns, instead they came away with two field goals. Even still, they had the game won until Guy muffed the punt. When I saw him coming forward to catch it, I knew it was bad news. Louisville may not be as bad as I thought, and UK isn't as good as I thought either. Learn from it and move it. :thumb: I like it when I can just quote a good post and save time :lol:

I agree that UK isn't as good as advertised, and UofL isn't as bad.
September 20, 200916 yr One game does not a season make. But UK found a way to win despite a HORRID 3rd quarter. One of the worst offensive quarters I can remember. 3 turnovers, giving UL the ball in great field position and only running 2-3 offensive plays the entire quarter. The defense had to be gassed. But, they found a way to win. These were the games that many of us UK fans used to dread because the Cats always seemed to find a way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Today, they did the opposite. I said in the pregame thread that this game scared me. This is why. UL was fired up and played MUCH better than last week. I thought Burke looked much improved and see why he earned the nod for the Cardinals. Victor Anderson is a solid back. UL is better than I thought and UK cannot turn the ball over like that and expect to win in the SEC. As bad as Hartline looked in the 3rd quarter (in what limited time the O was on the field), he led them down the field for the winning TD. Cobb is just flat out a special player. Locke had a solid game (except for the fumble). The defense battled and had some big stands when they needed them. This game scared me right up until the end. I had a wedding to go to and sat in the parking lot listening to the final minutes. Sitting in the parking lot of a church, I am certainly glad UK pulled off the win. I would hate to think what I might have have been heard from my car had they lost. Good win. An ugly and exciting win, ... but a W is a W.
September 20, 200916 yr If I'm not mistaken It was a UK player that knocked him down...I don't know if thats when it happened...:idunno: I think it was Alfonso Smith on a nice first down run who ran into Sanders.

September 20, 200916 yr A win is a win but this one at best was case of U.L. lost it and not U.K. winning. U.K. and U.L. were bad today. Should the Cats play like this he rest of the way out they will not win one SEC game. Todays game imo didn't as much show that U.L. was better, it only showed that U.L. was worse. I am very glad to get another win over the Cards but certainly am not going to be dancing or celebrating this one. We won, thats about it. One positive (besides the win being bette than a loss) is that the Govenor's Cup stays home where it belongs. :thumb: This post actually doesn't make sense to me...please clarify. I do know the Cards played markedly better today!
September 20, 200916 yr The offense needs some work right now. I'd like to see how many times Hartline threw beyond 20 yards from scrimmage (I mean 20 yards IN THE AIR, not short of it and the reciever runs the rest of it). In order for this team to be successful Hartline must extend/stretch the defense. By doing so it will help our run game be even better as we won't have 8 lineman in the box. The improvement I did see from Hartline today was that he threw the ball in the middle of the field, which he didn't do last year. Hartline threw up the middle today but not very far. He threw short crossing routes all day. As for the 2-minute offense toward the end of the 1st half, the entire blame should go on Hartline as he knows how much time is left and he has to hurry the offense up. Plus, at that juncture when you have no timeouts left, you must either pass to the sideline or to the endzone when you are that close. As most of you saw he didn't do that, and thats what led to us not scoring at the end of the 1st half. Yet again I reiterate that Hartline MUST extend the defense with some deep throws which he did not do today. If he doesn't, they will stack the box the whole game. Also, I still believe we aren't utilizing Matthews size enough right now in the redzone or on the field in-general for that matter. I think he may have had 2 catches all day and he was only thrown at 3 times. Gotta use him because Cobb can't catch every pass. Gotta have another WR who they defense has to respect so they have to respect both which also opens up our offense. The Defense wasn't that bad. That stretch of 3 straight turnovers just tired them out as they weren't able to get any rest and I think thats what caused them to give up the points they did. The offense needs to give them more rest and not turn the ball over so they can do their job. I believe we got better pressure on the QB today from our Defensive Ends which is a plus as that didn't happen too much in the Miami(OH) game. Burtke didn't look too much at Trevard Lindley's way today. I believe only one guy caught a pass today that Lindley was defending and it was a one handed catch at that and it was perfectly placed by Burtke just over the shoulder. Other than that Lindley was pretty good. They went at Paul Warford the whole game. Anytime there was a 1-on-1 match up with Louisville targeted him. Warford was getting burned alot today. Hopefully it was just nerves in it being a rivalry game and the opening home game. Overall, a win is a win, now we need to turn our focus to Florida and shore up the mistakes we made today. If we don't, I could see us losing by 40. If Hartline is able to limit his turnovers and stretch the defense, I think this team could go a long way. Now some of you may think I'm getting on Hartline a bit much here but its because I know he has the potential and he has shown it. He is definitely improved from last year. He just needs to have more confidence to throw the ball down field and not all these short passes he has been throwing. He his throwing down the middle now which is a definite improvement from last year when he only threw to the flat. Basically to sum it up, we need a more vertical passing game than what we showed but Hartline is making improvements little by little. He has promise and I'm sure he will continue to improve as the season progresses. While the above post reads well, and is intended to be noticed...it is riddled with inaccuracy.....U of L dominated most of the game, against a team with superior talent....a great coaching job by Krags....nothing more, nothing less.

September 20, 200916 yr UK is nowhere near as good as expected. This is a win, but they are in trouble the next 2 weeks. UK will be alright. I still think they can get 7-8 wins, but the next two weeks are certainly tall orders. IMO Justin Burke out played Hartline today... The Positive thing about this game is The cats of old would have lost this game... Brooks has changed the culture and it has been a process over the last few years...but he has changed the culture. Burke played really well, I think UK plays too much man to man and Lindley going out hurt them in the second half. Hartline did OK...he is getting more comfortable. He made a poor decision in throwing that pass right before the half, but there is a lot of blame to go around on that final drive including the scoreboard operators. UL was given multiple opportunities...what they get three red zone opportunities and got 6 points? Had their chances but didn't get it done. Louisville's defense is not very good. UK had the ball under 2 minutes in the 3rd quarter and still was over 300 yards offense. UK moved it fairly easily against the Cards. UL will be hard pressed to get to 6 wins because of their defense. It is not that good. They have enough skill guys on offense to score, but their defense will be their downfall. I thought this one would be closer than many expected, but this was too close. I hope not but if they play like today it will be a longggggggggg game! Definitely UK has their work cut out for them...

September 20, 200916 yr I thought it was a terrible coaching job by Kragthorpe. Playing and coaching football for most of my life, I couldn't disagree more. Other than two plays, Krag's called a brilliant game.

UK made the plays they needed to make down the stretch, UL did not. UK was the better team in the first half and should have had a bigger lead, but the poor decision on the final pass (either get it in the end zone or throw it away) and the clock operator error cost them big time. The offense was not on the field for more than a wave to the crowd in the 3rd quarter, but finished like they had to. UL played their hearts out. I thought they wanted it more in the 3rd quarter. BUT, ... the UK defense was the difference today IMHO. They were on the field all but 2-3 plays in the 3rd quarter and UL could have put them away in the 3rd quarter if it weren't for the UK defense. But if UK has a 3rd quarter like that in SEC play, they may not be so fortunate. I really like Burke. He made big strides from last week to this week and could be a very good QB before the season is done. I like Anderson as well. I thought Kragthorpe did a great job in getting his team ready for the Cats today. The only mistake I saw was the option play.
