September 20, 200916 yr Author So what's UK's defense's excuse?? They are definitely not as good as some make them out to be. Their defensive front isn't nearly as good as last year. They obviously have some big shoes to fill from last year.
September 20, 200916 yr The better team today.....lost.....the better team, overall, may have won.....Louisville dominated most of this game today. Louisville dominated the 3rd quarter, but not most of the game. First downs were 19-18 Total yards... 378-346 Possession... 32:32-27:28 Considering UK didn't have the ball at all in the third, those numbers are pretty close.
September 20, 200916 yr So what's UK's defense's excuse?? Louisville moved the ball better than expected, but the UK D came up big in the 3rd quarter after those turnovers.

September 20, 200916 yr Louisville moved the ball better than expected, but the UK D came up big in the 3rd quarter after those turnovers. It was better than expected because UK's defense isn't as good as some proclaim.
September 20, 200916 yr I have to disagree. I mean it was pretty much because of him for why UK almost lost the game. He ran a TERRIBLE two minute offense before half. He let 20 seconds run off the clock and then finally had to call the teams last timeout. Then I think almost everybody knows that when your that close to the goal line with 15 seconds left and no timeouts. You don't throw the ball 6 yards short of the goal line and not even close to out of bounds. That was just flat out dumb. Then the second half he had the interception and then fumble in back to back possessions. I admit he had a few nice plays, but not great by any means. His mistakes outweighed the good he did today IMO, and the reason why UL almost won. In college, the two minute offense is as much on the coaching staff as it is on the QB. He was 20-27 and made some big third down plays. He is our best QB no doubt.
September 20, 200916 yr It was better than expected because UK's defense isn't as good as some proclaim. Umm yea I think that goes along with the point of saying they moved it better than expected.
September 20, 200916 yr So what's UK's defense's excuse?? UK moved the ball fairly easily against UL...they boogered it up at the end of the half, and werent on the field much in the third quarter. UK defense is alright, nothing more, and they have some technical things to clean up but will be about what they have been. I thought their D did great for being on field for 14 minutes of the third quarter and having three possessions by UL start on the UK side of the field and UL getting inside the 15 yard line three times and coming away with 6 points. They had the stops needed in the third quarter when they were needed. UK drove it and drove it methodically for two straight scores... UL did not dominate most of this game. They dominated the third quarter.

They dominated the third quarter. I never said UL dominated most of the game. You're throwing UL's defense under the bus, when outside of a couple stops in the 3rd Quarter, UK's defense wasn't much better, if any. As I said earlier, UK's defense gave up more points than Louisville's...
September 20, 200916 yr It was better than expected because UK's defense isn't as good as some proclaim. I dont think I have made UK's defense out to be the second coming of the Monsters of the Midway, but they came up huge in the third quarter. They had some penalties that sustained some UL drives. UK came in a tad overconfident and were on the verge of busting it open, but screwed up the last drive of the half. They score there and it is not going to be pretty. That gave UL life and then it snowballed a bit in the third quarter. UL has some really nice skill guys on offense and should be able to score some.

You said UL's defense isn't very good... Outside of the couple stops we have agreed on in the 3rd Quarter, what makes UK's defense so much better than UL's, especially today?
September 20, 200916 yr When Sanders left the sidelines after getting run over, it seemed to me that the offense struggled for a while. Joker calls the plays, Sanders signals them in. The process was altered for a bit and it seemed like UK struggled on offense. I agree on Kragthorpe taking too long to get plays in and having to burn timeouts but that should improve. Someone needs to teach Matthews where the sideline is when they have no timeouts left and the clock is running late in the half. I guess this will put an end to the discussion of why UK is getting no votes in the AP Poll.

UL had drive starts in the third quarter from the UK 34, 44, and 25 and got 6 points...pretty much in succession. That is a great job by the defense. UK forced UL into two punting situations in the first half and turned them over on downs on another, aided by an idiotic option attempt. Louisville played about as well as they could and still lost, and was given ample opportunities to take the bull by the horns in the third but couldn't.

I'm still having trouble grasping how they are so terrible, yet UK's defense is somehow magically better, because of a couple stops in the 3rd Quarter...
September 20, 200916 yr In the next four weeks UK... vs Florida vs Alabama @ South Carolina @ Auburn ... Ummm... OUCH!
