The medical technology of the time was primitive, but it is still a good warning to us today considering the fact that a new strain can develop at any time. Carelessness can be disastrous is merely my point. Our medical technology is good, but far from foolproof.

I've never had a flu shot and will not start this year, swine flu or not.

You're smarter than that. I've seen and heard dozens upon dozens of reports (and you have too) about how horrible this current strain is and how it's going to cripple the world. Of course, I heard the exact same thing about SARS and the bird flu, and scores of other horrific diseases that never amounted to much.

 

It is part of my job to be prepared in the event this does turn out to be catastrophic. I guess this is just another attempt by the media and government to control us.

I got my (regular) flu shot Friday.

No flu shots here, ever. I stopped having immunizations as soon as I had a choice in the matter. Swine flu will probably be as anti-climatic as Avian flu and SARS.

I plan on getting a regular flu shot. I think the H1N1 vaccine is geared more towards children, health care/day care workers, pregnant women and young adults who have not been exposed to different strains of the flu.

I know Bishop Brossart is closed at least through Thurday due to the virus. Football game is cancelled for the 2nd week. My son also told me they have their first case in the high school where he is a teacher.

I got a flu shot one time and had the flu awful that year! I wouldn't get it but am thinking hard because I work in Dr's offices almost every day and have two little kids. That is the only reason. I'm afraid I'll be a carrier to them.

We lost another area young person to Swine Flu today. She had her first symptoms less than a week before her death from viral pneumonia and kidney failure.

 

Kimberly "Kimi" Young (23) is originally from Wood County, Ohio and is a Miami University graduate. She has lived in Oxford since graduating from Miami.

 

Young was taken to Mccullough-Hyde hospital in Oxford yesterday afternoon. Doctors decided to fly her to University Hospital last night and that's where she died early this morning.
