Yes, it is just the flu. It's just a different strain. Happens all the time.

In total number killed yes, in death rate no. If untreated the plague death rate is about 50%. The flu is less then 1%.

 

 

I was referring to the 1918-1919 flu pandemic which claimed the lives of between 50-100 million and which depending on which end of the continuum you with to fall killed nearly as many or more than the aforementioned Bubonic Plague. I am aware that medicine has progressed dramatically since then, I am just pointing this out to make note of something similar in the last 100 years that was quite devastating that is related to this virus.

There are other issues at play here than just medicine. Public health and safety policies have cleaned up streets of raw sewage, gotten rats under control, and made landlords responsible for providing decent living conditions.

That is true, but even so we can't discount the possibility of something like that happening. I am aware of changes in public sanitation that has greatly improved the health of our country. Even so, to imagine that such a thing could not happen again not logical either.

There's an excellent way of preventing the spread of disease that I'm in personal favor of....it's called "social distancing". I'm all over that!

I am not saying that this will be a repeat of 1918, the odds of that occurring are highly unlikely even so it is something that must be taken into account when analyzing any potential pandemic which is my point. To think that we have eliminated the threat of ANY pandemic in my opinion is giving far too much credit to the human race.

 

People on my end only deal with a vaccine once a year or so anyway so it is of minimal profit margin for us. At best it is an advertising move to get people into our stores.

I finally was able to get an H1N1 shot today. It may or may not be too late to matter at this point; but at least I'm covered in the unlikely event I get sneezed on by some swine....flu, that is. :thumb:

I hadn't planned on doing it but I was at the office of a physician of my acquaintance and he offered me a shot at no charge so I took it.

Still Shot-Free. I have survived caring for my daughter who had it, and being exposed to several others who've had it. I'm knocking on wood, but my alternative methods of avoiding illness seem to be working like no other methods I've tried this year! I haven't even had a cold!:eek:

I got em both no problems whatsoever
