Debate time for BGP...

Featured Replies

I have been debating for a few months now with a friend of mine on this subject. He says that Adrain Petterson is the best RB of all time. In my opinion, you have to do it for several years to prove where you stand in History.

Questions for this thread.

1. Where does AP list on your best ever?

2. How long (seasons) before someone can be considered the best of all time?

I would say he has to sustain this level of play for at least 6 or 7 years. RBs now days aren't lasting that long so I don't think it will happen. He is pretty unreal though.

He is an absolute freak with his combo of strength, speed , and quickness. He certainly has the talent to be the best ever but he isn't yet.

Not yet. My favorite is Billy Sims...

Is he the best right now? Clearly yes in opinion.

Best ever? Not even in my top ten yet... yet

Good one, but not the best lion RB ever.

I used to love to watch him cut and make people look stupid..He was defnately very slippery..Best ever probably not, but awesome to watch..

HT is right.

I think he needs to reach LT numbers before he can be considered the best ever. I am not saying LT is the best ever, just saying AP's numbers need to be like his in 6-7 years. He needs at least 6-7 years of sustained excellence.

I'd say another 5-8 years. He is on pace to be on the very very very short list if he can stay healthy. I worry about that though and that would be the only reason I could see him falling off the list. He is a freak! That move last week in Clev looked like what a good RB would do to a DB in a youth league game!

LT is a good example of a great back but not an all time great because he doesn't have the numbers for enough years.

Same sort of discussion would have been held for Priest Holmes for a short stretch, Terrell Davis for a stretch. Longevity and durability have to play a major role when you consider some of the legends of that position. I will say that he's currently my favorite to watch and I hope that at the end of Oct. that my favorite team has the sackajewia to slow him down. He has all the tools. Let's revisit this in 3 years when more of his picture is painted.

I think Gale Sayers is the bar. Most would agree he was one of the greatest of all time (if they don't agree, a detailed NFL Films session on the Kansas Comet -- especially those plays where he fakes out guys he can't even see, as far as we know -- is definitely in order).

He played seven seasons. Five at a very high level; his last two he played only two games apiece because of his knee injuries.

Is he the best right now? Clearly yes in opinion.

I completely concur.
