I see where some people would see HHS offense as being high powered but has it really happened yet this year? It definately has the weapons so hopefully for them, they fine tune this week. That's if Boone allows them to. I'm sure they will have a lot to say about it.

I'd be stunned if Highlands doesn't win this by at least 6 TDs after seeing Anderson put 63 up on Boone last week.

And as I mentioned above, Boone will be intensely focused and ready to go this week. They are playing Highlands, the team everyone in N. Those things equate to a close football game in my assessment.

That has caused some to postulate that Highlands O is not as good as advertised and the Birds are overrated. I disagree that is the case. Plus, and I'm not directing this necessarily to you Bluesport, but I think some fans of some opposing schools like to predict huge blow outs by Highlands so that when it doesn't happen, they can then make critical posts of the Birds underperforming and being over rated.

LN I am with you. When you win say little and when you lose say less. I do not think he will open up the play book for obvious reasons tonight. I do think if you read some of my previous posts that it looks like he is working on different parts of the "O" game. With that said the defense plays gap assignments and uses speed and IMO they play bend don't break philosophy. The potent "O" will not be on the field when St X plays power football and runs behind that huge line the following week. Of course, losing to that team is no embarrasment but the defense is not strong enough to be mentioned as an elite team. The HHS corners at Withrow were playing 8 yards of the ball and linebackers were 5. I know they have a few boys banged up, but still it needs work and I don't buy into the d system. A team that can play ball control will beat HHS and I think the word will get out. Ryle in week 1 should have stuck with what worked. You are going to see next week, I sure hope that I am wrong because I want that win against the big boys.

You took the words right out of my mouth. :clap: Been thinking this since week 1 when I didn't see a single QB draw against Manual. No offense to any of Highlands opponents thus far, and not to overlook a good BC team, but IMO the first 4 and now 5 games of the season have been one big building process to the St. X game.

Huge, and I mean huge trap game for Highlands. With all the talk that's been going on since the summer about the X game next week and with kids being kids, it's very possible that the kids aren't focusing enough on Boone Co. The coaches will do what they can to make sure that doesn't happen, but sometimes even with the best of coaches, it happens (think Bryan Station last year). I can assure you that Boone Co. is focusing on Highlands. Plus there is a lot of pride in the Boone Co. program. With last week's rather embarrassing loss for the Rebels, they are going to want to make a statement this week. Also, Boone runs a power runnng game offense. We've demonstrated some weakness against teams that like to run the ball. Add to that the fact that with X scouts likely to be in the stands, Dale isn't going to want to show much. I think Highlands will win, but it will be a narrower margin of victory than some are predicting.

 

 

Agree with you that this will be a tough game. Why does Dale not want to show much because X scouts are in the stands? Is it more important to defeat X or Scott, Dixie and CovCath? If this team is as multi-faceted as everyone says they should start showing it a little more IMO. Obvious that against Beechwood they were working on the passing game and then last week seemed to emphasize more of the run game. Lets see them put it in the entire package and see what they have before district play. The more you show during the year, the tougher you are to defend down the road in the playoffs. Look for the score of this game to be somewhere around the score of the Ryle game. "Tankles" will have his boys ready to play, but speed and stamina will take over in the second half.

Question for the Bluebird nation. I see in the paper today that Bardo's passing stats in there, but not his rushing stats, nor his scoring stats. Do you think this is an oversight? I'm just curious because I know he runs the ball and has scored.

I agree, I do think some people make bold picks so they can criticize them afterwards. But I am not doing that in this case.

I have been on record as saying I think everything Highlands has been doing has been building for the St. X game as well, and they probably could have won every game by a larger margin than they did.

That being said this is the week before St. X so although I don't think you will see Dale open up the playbook, I do think you will see better execution and less turnovers. I was told that was part of the problem last week-something like 4 turnovers.

And I read that Boone has given up 840 yards rushing over the last 2 games. I think Collinsworth or whoever is back there will do some serious damage. As long as Highlands holds onto the ball I think they score at will.

 

So I understand what you are saying, but I truely think Highlands wins this won in blowout fashion.

That is wrong. The game was moved to 7:30 because there is just alot going on before the game. Little League 50th anniversary, class reunions, homecoming, etc.

Highlands is not over looking Boone. They do not over look anyone there is a reason why they are so successful. People need to understand Bryan Station was a big physical team with speed who would have won 5A if they had beaten Highlands.

 

I do not believe Dale is holding much back, Highlands has simply made errors in games thus far. I do not believe they have played a "complete" game all year but I think they will play very well tonight. Dale can't hide much for Specht, Specht has the horses to stop about anything its just a matter of who executes.
