September 3, 200917 yr Great hire for Pitino! Its about time he gets back into the recruiting game. This goes on everywhere and until the NCAA stops it will continue. It started with Larry Brown Hiring Danny Mannings dad at Kansas. Lets not forget that Coach Cal hired Milt Wagner with no coaching experience to get his son Dejuan in his first year at Memphis. Maybe Pitino is back to focusing on Basketball. As long as it is legal Go for it. Didnt pitino Coach Teagues Dad?

September 3, 200917 yr Looks like they are looking into it but dont have any grounds to stop it. It would cost the NCAA to much money to hire staff to enforce this. Great recruiters have always figured out way around the rules. They will do something else if the NCAA stops it. They limited phone calls, coaches started texting.
September 3, 200917 yr I remember that Pitino hired Magloire's dad. He also hired the Burgin Coach as a Media/Tape guy while at UK. I think he may have taken him to Boston with him. It was Magliore's coach, not his dad.
September 3, 200917 yr The NCAA shouldn't be able to stop it. It isn't any of their business who a school chooses to employ.
September 3, 200917 yr I say do whatever is needed to win as long as it isn't against the rules. Heck Hire 5 more assistants, as long as you win.
September 3, 200917 yr Yes it does. Everyday? I expect a post each day of an assistant HS coach being hired as a college assistant.
September 3, 200917 yr One of the scummier practices in all of sports. Here's what galls me most about it: UofL couldn't do it for Milt Wagner — one of their own — but they can do it now? :irked:

In fact LSU hired Press Maravich as head coach to get his son.
September 3, 200917 yr Didn't this happen at Arkansas in football a few years ago? I see no problem with it, as long as its legal, take advantage of it.
September 3, 200917 yr It was Magliore's coach, not his dad. Thanks. :thumb: Was confused with Danny Manning's Dad.
September 3, 200917 yr I won't be able to keep my composure from laughing hysterically if Teague goes somewhere else to play.
September 3, 200917 yr I know it was football, but UK did the same thing with Dennis Johnson. They recruited his brother who was a year older than Dennis and they hired his dad Alvis to the Associate Atheletic Director position if I am not mistaken. Alvis was also one of the first to go when it was time to make cuts in the Athletic Department as well. Of course, Dennis was long gone when Alvis was let go.
September 4, 200917 yr This stuff happens all the time. I just hope it seals the deal for UofL, and I'm still not sure it will. Coach Cal is pretty good at bringing in relatives/coaches to get players too. Wagner, Rose, Evans, etc. Just another way for coaches to bend not break...
