August 30, 200917 yr I hope you are laughing if that day comes when UK has to vacate tourney wins because Calipari hasn't been proven to do anything wrong. I hope you are still supportive of him because according to his track record....it is bound to happen again. It will never happen at Kentucky while Calipari is there regardless of how some may wish and hope it does. If anything these past events will help to ensure that it doesn't. He knows very well what type of microscope he is under, as well as media scrunity. Plus Sandy Bell and the UK bosses are also watching. I'm sure he wants the rest of his career in coaching to be smooth sailing. All this talk of "where's there's smoke there's fire", and "dancing with the devil", is just talk. UK is in safe hands with Cal. He knows the risks as well as anyone. Plus why would he have to take the low road to recruit at a place like UK, with all the resources and tradition they have to offer?
August 30, 200917 yr Author Somebody got Calipari's past programs in trouble. Either it was him, or it was the people he hung out with. I don't know why this is such a difficult concept to understand. Calipari isn't being given the benefit of the doubt because he has the "brown touch." For those unfamiliar, the "brown touch" is a lot like the "golden touch," only that when it comes to the "brown touch," everything they touch turns to poo. As far as Pitino goes, are you now trying to backtrack from the idea that most UK fans profess -- and one that I have long subscribed to -- that he is not a womanizer? So what you are saying is either Calipari or one of Calipari's friends set it up for Rose to take the test in Detroit and/or set up someone to take it for him. There just doesn't seem to be enough information to criticize Calipari here. Like I said earlier. A lot of other very good coaches have had their post season appearances vacated because of violations.

No, all I said was he has shown himself, repeatedly, to exercise poor judgment of character as far as who he associates with. Because nothing appears to have changed, I can say with confidence that he will almost certainly land UK in the same trouble his previous places of employment landed in. You may not know about it if your child is down at the corner store shoplifting candy bars and baseball cards. While it's not your fault directly, it sure is indirectly, so it's on you.
August 30, 200917 yr Do I think Calipari breaks the rules? Yes Do I think he was aware of Rose's test situation? Yes Do I think Calipari's actions are comparable to the recent escapades of Rick Pitino & Billy Gillispie? Not a chance. It's insulting & disgraceful for Mark Story to lump them together.

So are you going to go ahead and put Jimmy Valvano, Lute Olsen, and Jim Calhoun in the same boat? What about Calipari? Is what happened with Magette on him? It seems to be a theme going on with a lot of great coaches.

August 30, 200917 yr IMO, this is a "didn't have anything else to write about" article. The #1 fact in my mind when referring to coach Cal is that "he has never been proven guilty", case closed. Until he does, he is a free man/coach with no penality. "Mark Story" wants to put UK down for his own personal gain. He didn't mention about the last two out of three coaches having won National Championships (and yes the banners are still hanging). UK former and present coaches are the hot topic and will continue to be the entire season because thats what happens when you are on top. If Pitino wasn't a big name, then noone cares and I am sure not many people outside of Kentucky care anyway. If he wins games next season like I know he wil,l then I honestly could care less who he is in bed with. Thats between him and his wife/whoever. My favorite part of the article that really brought it into presepective for me. "It's all a little embarrassing," said Joe B. Hall, the former UK coach. "But you have to say, we sure are getting publicity." Let me sum up imo what Coach Hall was trying to say in a nice way. "It's all a little embarrasing but who cares? Do you realize the publicity we are getting?" So thanks Coach Hall for summing that up for us and yes I agree 100%."Who will really care a year from today?"
August 31, 200917 yr Author That makes it OK? If those coaches and Calipari did not do anything wrong in the situation it does make it okay. There are some things beyond a coach's control.

In other words, by any means necessary. Just don't get caught. And you guys wonder why you're the most penalized school in NCAA history. :ohbrother:

LMB, you're wasting your time trying to convince those that have already made their minds up about Calipari's past or future. 10-15 years down the road when UK has a few national championships and zero investigations or penalities, there will still be those who say, "Well, they've had success but they still have a crooked coach...he just didn't get caught."

August 31, 200917 yr Author In other words, by any means necessary. Just don't get caught. And you guys wonder why you're the most penalized school in NCAA history. :ohbrother: Seriously, do you even read my posts? :ohbrother: If those coaches did nothing wrong and didn't know what was going on then I have no problem with any of them. If they did do something wrong and it comes out then I have a problem. If Coach Calipari is caught doing something wrong or even charged with doing something wrong then I will be very worried. In the mean time he hasn't done anything wrong that we know of.
August 31, 200917 yr I don't like Mark Story. For years, every other article he wrote was a trashing of Rich Brooks...as if anyone could have taken over at UK when Brooks did and won fast. Scholarship reduction, bad team, tough conference, etc...at the same time, he hardly even hinted that Tubby Smith might deserve some criticism for the direction of the basketball program. One guy inherits a disaster, and you rip him apart for not winning immediately. The other inherits a dynasty and heads in the wrong direction and he doesn't warrant just a little criticism. He's not a good writer, IMO. I rarely read anything from him. I long for the days of Chuck Culpepper.
