Mark Story: Embarassing Kentucky Coaches

Featured Replies

It's not about being proven guilty, it's about the fact that he had two trips(his only two trips at that) vacated because of broken rules he may or may not have known about.

Me, I find it hard to believe that he knew nothing in either case, but that is my opinion.

Yeh its not whether anyones guilty or not. That makes no difference.

OJ Simpson wasn't proven guilty either ... :D

Isn't he in jail?

I think Story was calling a spade a spade and stating that even though Calipari is the unofficial "King of Kentucky", he has still had both of his trips to the Final Four vacated and that is an embarrasment. Story is right, 3 of the last 4 coaches of Kentucky have some discrepancies, but as long as UK wins, no one cares at all about the discrepancies. That's the truth isn't it?

I mean, seriously, how fast will Calipari be ran out of the state if he has a Final Four, or worse a National Title vacated while at UK? He has already had two taken away so would it really surprise anyone if he had another one vacated while he is the coach at UK?

According to the reports Calipari played no part in having the 2 Final 4 trips vacated. The interesting thing is Lute Olsen, Jimmy Valvana (at 2 different schools), Jim Calhoun, and a lot of other coaches have had their post season appearances vacated. Those are just some examples that I know of. Now according to records Calipari has done nothing wrong. So as I have said, why is he bunched into the same category as Rick Pitino and Billy Gillispie?

What's next an article on Embarrassing Kentucky News People?

Lute Olson, Jim Calhoun and Jim Valvano have all managed to win National Titles and make it to the Final Four without having the Titles or Final Four appearances vacated. The only 2 times Calipari made it, he lost them, and then he left for another job. Now, he is the "King of Kentucky", as long as he is winning....which he hasn't done yet.

He is lumped in with Rick and Billy G because all 3 have skeletons in their closets and they all 3 were the "King of Kentucky" at some point in their lives simply because they were the coach of UK. I think it's fitting, but I am not a UK basketball fan.

Is it not embarassing that the coach UK just hired to one of the richest contracts in college basketball history just had his second appearance to the Final Four taken away from him? The only two times the man made it to the Final Four and they are both stricken from the record books and that isn't the least bit embarassing? To me that isn't a good look, but, whatever.

I also think that if he was still at Memphis, most UK fans would be glad he is there and not at UK. I understand you have to defend your coach and I can respect that, I just don't understand why people don't see why some people in the media question it. Especially when it comes to comparing those 3 guys to Tubby Smith.

Not for what everybody thought he should be in for. He, like Calipari it seems, got away with murder.

He was convicted of wrongful death in civil court, no?

As has already been mentioned, Cal hasn't even been accused of anything (other than by the media and opposing fans).

I would think that Coach K knew. Don't know what that has to do with this topic, but yeah, I would think he knew. I don't think Coach K is that stupid. I also don't think Coach K is stupid enough to get caught knowing what he knew about Piggie, which is what he successfully did and what Calipari didn't do so well. Another thing Coach K has done better than Calipari is win National Titles, but it's a good thing Calipari didn't because they would have been vacated anyways.:p

It has something to do with this topic because Duke's Final Four appearance was not taken away by the NCAA in the Maggette case even though it was very similar to the Camby case at UMass. How does the NCAA do these things??? Selective penalities.

Calipari is being hammered for incidents at two colleges that he knew nothing about nor had any responsibility for. Even the NCAA said as much. For Mark Story to lump him in an article about an alleged rape/extortion, and a 3rd time DUI, is totally unfair to him and his family.

As far as I am concerned, you can take away Duke's Final Four run with Maggette. Big deal.

Coach K is still a way better coach than Calipari.

Whatever you wish to believe. You and the NCAA can believe he knew nothing. I choose to believe otherwise.

You know why I asked you about Piggie and Coach K. :D

I was just pointing out the way the leap is made about Coach Cal's guilt and not some other coaches who seem to be given a free pass. (I could have also used the John Wooden/Sam Gilbert angle but you aren't a UCLA fan.)

Okay with me what you believe. Believe what you want. That doesn't make it true.

But as far as I'm concerned there's a double standard in some of these cases. Duke got a pass and the media said nothing. UMass was hit hard due to a mistake by Camby and the media is all over Calipari. Memphis is hit hard due Rose's decision and Calipari is blasted.

That's kinda like blaming General Motors for all their cars that are wrecked by irresponsible drivers.

True, it doesn't make it true, but I am sure Calipari is the naive, innocent coach that you want him to be.:puke:

Duke got a pass from the media. Not hardly. That statement is UK hate and jealousy. No school has ever gotten a pass from the media. The media are the ones reminding everyone of the "Duke scandal".

But, let's break it down, just for fun. Is it Duke's fault that Coach K's reputation gives him the benefit of the doubt? :walk:Is it Duke's fault that Coach K has the reputation as an upstanding member of the NCAA, ambassador to the game of basketball and the reigning coach of the Gold Medal winning USA Basketball team?:p I know most of you hate Duke, but admit it, you'd love to have Coach K at UK. You know it's true.:ylsuper:

As I have said before, Calipari is blasted because the only times he has gone to the Final Four, he went with illegal players. It's that simple. Once he makes it with legal players and it doesn't get vacated, then he may get a little more respect. Until then, what in his coaching record says he is as good a coach as Coach K, Lute Olsen, Jim Calhoun, Jim Valvano, etc? He is clearly not on their level.:sssh:
