Erpenbeck is a good player. But if he keeps getting hit, he will get hurt. That was apparent. Sliding/going down are his best option to avoid getting hit, or he won't be helping the team much from the sideline.

He shouldn't "shy" away from it. But you shouldn't draw it every play. As a LB your job is to make contact, but as a QB you're needed for a very different purpose. And it ISN'T to draw as many tackles as you can. lol. He is obviously going to get hit, but you have to avoid hits too and sometimes that means running out, or sliding, or whatever means to get down before you take a huge hit. He is already hurting, and it is crazy to think LexCath won't go after that ya know?

If CovCath had won ten games last year, I would have still sent in my questions to the administration. Maybe I am different, but playing high school sports is more than just about winning games, it is the fun, the friendships, the team work, learning how to win and lose and friends/teammates working together for a common goal. Sure everybody loves to win, but to me at least, just competing makes you a winner and a better person!

 

You may have sent the questions but if they would have won 10 games they probably would have been disreguarded. So in my OPINION it is about W's and L's. I doubt they would have been so eager to let Brossart go if he had the talent to win a state championship like Rodenberg did.

QB or not, Ryle still wins this game. Ryle is just a really tough team this year and I would expect them to compete with Highlands in atleast 1 of their 2 meetings.

 

Ryles not even ranked in the top ten in the state. I think most teams that play Cov. Cath. this year will be deemed as "a really tough team."

I have a quick point to make to hopefully put a bit of a different perspective on things and possibly to wrap up this "deviation" from the string topic:

 

I have been involved with Cov Cath on many levels for about 18 years now - bingo, baseball, football, art club, senior retreats, school plays and more. I know that Lynn Ray managed to make his program fit in, and even contribute to ALL of these programs. It was very appreciated by the whole Cov Cath community. However, since he retired as head coach on the football team, we've had a complete sea change at Cov Cath. There's a new school, new administration, we're on our 3rd new football coaching staff, and there's even a new administration at the diocese to toss on top of things. That leaves a whole lot of toes to get stepped on in some way or another. I can tell you first-hand from having spoken with faculty and booster members, that there were major differences in ideals, goals, and personalities amongst all of the administrators, booster heads and football coaches in between the Lynn Ray and Dave Wirth years. I'm not trying to make excuses and say that it had nothing to do with W's and L's, but it isn't nearly as "cut and dry" as so many people like to make it.

 

Sometimes matters can be dealt with better when they're kept in relative private. Kudos to the administration, John Rodenburg, and Dave Brossart for handling things as professionally as they did and for not making a big public show out of it. I'm honestly sorry I can't say quite so much of the Cov Cath parents, community, and the inquiring & gossiping minds of NKY.

You're the offensive leader out there and without you things tend to become a mess. Erpenbeck is the absolute best option at QB that CovCath has right now, and especially with him already being hurt, he will need to avoid contact as best as possible.

Ryle smoked Dixie the week before. Ryle might be the best team up here this year outside of HHS.

DD, so your post seems to at very least imply that Cov Cath makes a bigger deal out of the teams they play than they should. Let's look at a few things:

 

1) Dixie & Cov Cath both play Beechwood, Highlands, New Cath, Ryle, Scott and each other.

2) Apart from the teams listed above, Dixie plays Boone County, Conner, Holmes, and Simon Kenton.

3) Apart from the teams listed above, Cov Cath plays Campbell County, Cincinnati LaSalle, Lexington Catholic, and Louisville St. Xavier.

 

Now, for the most part, the similarities in Cov Cath's & Dixie's schedules show some strong match ups with some well established programs...there are 3 teams listed that played in the state finals last year, and a very strong and talented Ryle program, and then they are playing each other. I think we can all agree that these are pretty clearly "tough" teams. Am I right?

 

However, and I don't mean to knock the other teams that Dixie is playing, take a look at the remaining teams Dixie is playing versus the remaining teams that Cov Cath is taking on. Honestly, how can you compare Dixie's match-ups against the likes of LaSalle, Lex Cath, and Louisville St. X? Surely you weren't implying that those teams aren't "tough" were you?

I don't think DD is question CovCath's schedule strength. Instead, DD is saying Ryle is not that good and CovCath got whipped. DD is predicting that most teams on the schedule will whip CovCath and all teams, even unranked ones, will be built into superteams by CovCath supporters trying to rationalize the losses.

 

 

Or I could be wrong about what DD is trying to say.

 

Either way, we will find out tonight what kind of team Ryle has.
