I for one will let the Coach Wirth and his staff decide who to play and to whom not to play!

 

Folks it's early and this game, while I and any CovCath fan would have loved to win, it really meant nothing. With only four teams in our District this season, CovCath has 10 games to get ready for the real season to start!

 

The reason for my wanting the second scrimmage game was a chance to see who would step up. For a new staff and a new system it would have been best, but as it was, I can see giving the seniors the first chance, now if after looking at the films the seniors didn't step up, you make some changes.

 

Me, I except to see #5 Paul Ritter on the "O @ D" side of the ball some next week, as he reminds me of Brandon Brown of the CovCath 2006 state championship team! New to CovCath football and don't know who Brandon is, click on the above link!

 

Call me crazy, I think every game matters. And... I am pretty sure that Coach Wirth, the rest of the staff and the players would agree. In a 10 game season, every game matters.

 

I do agree with you that a second scrimmage would have been very nice for the Colonels. For the players and the coaches and staff.

Oh boy...here we go again. Whoever is telling you the best players aren't on the field has bias or just isn't knowledgeable enough. True, they may have more talent but you have to be able to make that talent work in a game. Run faster, jump higher does not automatically make you a better football player. No coach is going to sit his best players because they are juniors, especially at CCH. They got rid of their last coach after 2 years. They didn't like their freshman coach 3 years ago and he left then won the freshman championship last year at another school. Believe me, Wirth is going to put his best players on the field. Personally, I think he is going to get the job done but I don't expect it to happen this year.

 

Hahaha! You say "especially at CCH"??? That is exactly why I say that the seniors play over the more talented juniors, because it is CCH. Whoever says that the more talented players doesnt mean it produces a better product on the field typically means that person has a bias towards a player who may be a senior.

 

Better talent on the football field DOES mean better player and plays made. Now, if you would have said potential, I might have agreed with you. Potential could mean that a kid has an upside to be good. More talent means he has reached that potential and is, infact, better.

Completley inaccurate! Three sophmores started (WR, DB, LB) with 3-4 additional ones seeing extensive action. 2 underclassman started on the O line, 1 on D line with another playing over half the game on D line. 3 soph receivers played close to half the game, several underclassman saw extensive action at LB. Overall there were 13 Srs that started the game, 9underclassman. Will the starting lineup be tweaked, possibly, were kids not played because the are underclassman, absolutely not. In fact, IMO several underclassman were played that are not ready for the varsity level, but it is great that they got an opportunity to show what they can do and what they need to do to be ready at this level.

 

You are actually inaccurate when you speak of the o-line. The o-line didnt switch out hardly at all, if at all.

 

And, you all take me all wrong... I didnt say only seniors play. But, at the positions where there are seniors that have been around for all 4 years, they are getting their playing time, well deserved or not.

 

Debate it all you want. The facts are the facts.

Thank you C6 for posting these facts. I would say these facts prove my point above. Coaches put the players on the field that will best help them win regardless of what grade they are in.

 

So if Bart Simpson came on here and posted facts you would believe them. Anyone could come on here and post something and say it's fact. Doesnt mean it is.

The problem seems to be that some fans seem to think this team "owes us" and we can only be "paid" with Ws.

 

Having played and having kids that have and do play high school sports , I look for effort. If its there and they lose and they handle themselves well, I'm cool. Disappointed but cool with it.

 

Knowing some of these boys, I know the desire and attitude is there. That's all I need. I will consider myself "paid."

 

But, if you know sports so well, then you would agree that the best kids should play. People can say what they want about sports, it's about the W's first. If it wasnt, coaches wouldnt get fired and players wouldnt get benched. Now sure, sportsmanship, comraderie, brotherhood, sisterhood (for the females), discipline, respect, integrity etc. are also a part. But, it's first and foremost about the wins. To win, the best kids should play. Wherever they are. Not just at CCH.

So if Bart Simpson came on here and posted facts you would believe them. Anyone could come on here and post something and say it's fact. Doesnt mean it is.

I think for the most part it was juniors and seniors playing. I think the team has a ton of work, but I think they are putting their best product on the field that they have at this point.

Yes, the facts are the facts. If you saw the game, read of the game, and have talked to people about the game, you would see that there was talent on the sidelines that should have been on the field. (I wont mention names because all the kids play very, VERY hard, I dont doubt that.)

 

I dont come on here spouting off random numbers about how many juniors and seniors played. That wasnt my point. My point was that at the positions where there were both juniors and seniors, and the juniors were better, the seniors may have seen more playing time.

 

But, I'll go with the rest of the posters and wait to see if this changes. One poster made a great point and said that maybe Coach Wirth and the staff will see the talent after a few games. It does take time I guess. Sometimes an entire summer isnt enough.
