Look gentlemen, or women, I am not saying that everyone who played didnt deserve playing time, or didnt deserve to start and play the whole game... I am saying that there were SOME guys who played and got more time because they were seniors. That is the bottom line. Again, I firmly believe that all the kids tried their very best, and all of them busted their tails... However, in a sport and at a program where sports are about 1 main thing (winning), there are some kids on that bench that should get much more playing time this season than some of those who started/played last weekend.

As it's been said before, maybe this will change. We shall see.

I am sure CCH will right the ship, and I hope they do!

I wasn't at the game so I am going off of second hand information, but I was told that COV Cath had a lot of cramping issues and faded in the later part of the game when it wasn't overly hot. I don't know anything about the new coaching staff but I know Cov has always been one of the more conditioned teams in the area. Did the new staff not put as much into the conditioning program as previous coaches have this pre-season or did the just get worn down by a bigger/deeper team?

The defense was on the field for pretty much the entire first half. Any team would have been worn down.

But, if you know sports so well, then you would agree that the best kids should play. People can say what they want about sports, it's about the W's first. If it wasnt, coaches wouldnt get fired and players wouldnt get benched. Now sure, sportsmanship, comraderie, brotherhood, sisterhood (for the females), discipline, respect, integrity etc. are also a part. But, it's first and foremost about the wins. To win, the best kids should play. Wherever they are. Not just at CCH.

And that is the point I was making...it's about W's first - especially at CCH. Coach Brossart can attest to that. The players you think should be on the field aren't out there because the coaches think the seniors on the field give the team the best chance to win.

You forgot to add one thing. This is YOUR opinion. I don't have a dog in this fight and really could care less who Cov Cath plays on the field but I would think that the coaches would know who to put in the game. This is MY opinion, of course. If a player on the bench deserves more time, then after this FIRST game, I'm sure the coaches will see it on film and make adjustments or the losses would continue and the Mafia will run the coach out of town :) Just joking guys... :thumb:

At what part of the game did CC's QB get hurt? Did that have something to do with them not scoring? Will he play this week against LexCath?

First series.

Partially along with penalties and Ryle's defense.

Should.

I really like Erpenbeck as a player. He was playing most of the game with a separated shoulder. I liked him a lot better then the QB last year. What I like most about Erpenbeck is he doesn’t slide when he runs the ball and there is a player in front of him trying to tackle him. I think a lot of people remember the Cov Cath game last year against Highlands. It was 3 down in long, Cov Cath’s quarterback ran the ball up the middle and almost had the first down. He then decided to slide and therefore didn’t get the first down. I personally like the style of play of Erpenbeck and think that as the season goes on Cov Cath will be a lot better.

And that is the point I was making...it's about W's first - especially at CCH. Coach Brossart can attest to that.

While Ws and Ls were part of the reason Brossart is no longer coach, it was only one of many factors. To say it was mostly about wins and losses does not accurately portray what happened.

My advice is that before commenting, everyone should just take a deep breath, count to 100 and go back and read the prediction thread. Coming into this game, everyone knew that Ryle had a big, strong, veteran team, with returning starters at the "skill" positions (QB, RB, TE, etc, etc), and the same coaching staff as last year running the same offensive and defensive schemes. CCH had mostly untested players (at the varsity level), no returning starters at the "skill" positions and a new coaching staff running a new offense and defense. CCH had one scrimmage to work out all of this before playing a veteran Ryle team who many believe to be at the top of 6A this year.

If there was ANYTHING surprising about this game, it was that CCH was only down 13 - 7 deep into the third quarter. As for the 400 + rushing yards by Ryle, 80 came on the first play of the game and more than half of the rest came by Ryle simply running the same play over and over (weakside counter) that on Friday night CCH had no answer for. You would be making a mistake to assume that the CCH coaches will not fix that problem. The CCH offense had a few hiccups (too many turnovers - the fumble while they were driving in the first half was a killer - and too many penalties - one that nullified a touchdown), but who is really surprised given that this was their first game with so many new players? In spite of all of this, they were a penalty away from scoring 20 on a veteran Ryle team.

This year, CCH has a great coaching staff, with renewed enthusiam among the players, students, parents and supporters. The Crazies were in full force on Friday night doing what they do best and the stadium (for at least three quarters) was electric.

As to the so-called "talent drain" at CCH, remember that these Seniors have now had three different coaching staffs during their tenure, the Juniors were a much-heralded class as freshmen (tied for first place in their large-school freshman football season, losing out on playing in the freshman championship game by a coin flip) and the Sophomores had a very successful freshman season last year as well.

If you are still distraught, I recommend taking two aspirin and reserving judgment on this team until after the season is over, remembering what they said about Rome.

If you are happy with Friday's outcome, ignore what I have said and keep on underestimating this team........

Nice post. I, for one, am keeping an open mind with this team. Week 2 games should telll us much more about where they stack up.

VR it wasn't with me (W/L that is) and I posted question on BGP's and sent the same post to the CovCath administration of should they or shouldn't they rehired Brossart and not one single of my questions had to do with W/L....

If I can find the post, I will post it here, but believe me, a lot and I truthfully feel a lot of CovCath folks wanted Brossart gone and it had nothing to do with W/L...

Erpenbeck is a good player. But if he keeps getting hit, he will get hurt. That was apparent. Sliding/going down are his best option to avoid getting hit, or he won't be helping the team much from the sideline.

I didnt forget to add anything. On this blog, 98% of what is stated is shear opinion. Of course what I post is my opinion. Just like what anyone posts is their opinion.

QB or not, Ryle still wins this game. Ryle is just a really tough team this year and I would expect them to compete with Highlands in atleast 1 of their 2 meetings.

I remember the whole discussion and I don't doubt that it wasn't solely about the wins. But I am pretty sure if CCH won 10 games last year Brossart would still be coach. I don't want to get too far off topic. To get back to the point, a coach is going to put his best 11 on the field to get wins and he doesn't care what grade they are in. Juniors who are better football players than seniors are not going to sit because the coach wants wins.

And I can agree with this statement!

If CovCath had won ten games last year, I would have still sent in my questions to the administration. Maybe I am different, but playing high school sports is more than just about winning games, it is the fun, the friendships, the team work, learning how to win and lose and friends/teammates working together for a common goal. Sure everybody loves to win, but to me at least, just competing makes you a winner and a better person!
