Ru referred to the top 3 sports. With that being said, I noticed the CCH middle schoolers practicing, that can only help them build their program.

At the end of the day for CCH the school is low on talent. We saw it in all three major sports last year and the varsity football teams looks like a JV team. You can't blame the lack of talent on Dave Brossart either.

 

That is because alot of Sophmores saw extensive action tonight.

Congrats to Ryle's offensive line for a nice game, especially in the second half. Elliott and Eubanks were the beneficiaries of some very nice holes opened up by the line and then did their part in shaking and running past tacklers. I was told tonight that Ryle's total rushing yards was actually in the 450 range. That's just flat out impressive. Passing game wasn't quite there tonight, however, as Hempel never had time to set in the pocket and was constantly on the run. That'll improve though.

 

Nice game by Ryle's kicker, Erik Pederson, who hit from 38 and 45 yards, and also made an extra point from 30 yards.

 

Ryle's defense also looked very solid. Forced three turnovers and pretty much shut down the CCH passing game. In fact, most of CCH's offense came on QB scrambles when he couldn't find an open WR. Not to be overly critical of CCH, but they appear to have no running game at all and their passing schemes seemed to consist of gimmicky stuff. After the second INT, Erpenbeck seemed afraid to throw the ball and took off running whenever he got the chance. CCH should find a place to play Ritter on offense. He was certainly a bright spot for them tonight.

 

Ryle is going to compete for the 6A title in NKY. They have a very good offense and a solid defense that will continue to improve as the first-year starters get more time. It'll be interesting to see how they fare against Highlands next week, but even if it doesn't go well, they'll still be in the hunt for the district championship.

It's always good to have a K that can convert from long range. That's something that shouldn't be overlooked.

Coop, I am sold on the Ryle "O" and have been for a while but CovCath shot themselves far too often in the foot, to have me sold on the Ryle "D" as of right now!

 

As you pointed out CovCath (at the moment) has no running game at all, and that point was brought out tonight, as it was against HC in the scrimmage game, but that won't happen when Ryle plays Conner, Boone and Simon Kenton those teams have running games, and I am not sure Ryle will be able to stop them.

 

Now the question begs, can those teams stop Ryle? After watching Ryle tonight, I don't think so......

Really? Hmm. Maybe for the last series, with under 2 minutes left, then yes. Otherwise, this isn't true. From start to finish this team just didn't quite look like a varsity squad. I can't agree with theguru that all three sports lacked in talent last year and that this will be the same, because the baseball and track teams had plenty of talent..obviously some of the best. But football, the talent is definitely down. Talent wise this team isn't even as good as last years team. The good news is, the right system is being implemented and the coaching staff is top notch.

TOG is actually pretty spot on. I was not overly impressed with Ryles' D tonight. They held Covcath to only *really* 7 points (I'm talking first team). But that isn't difficult to do when Covcath has really no offense except some scrambles. When Ryle faces a real offense, it could get rough. However, Ryles' offense is going to be scary. If Hempel and his recievers can get on the same page, which I'm positive they will, it is just going to be ridiculous. Elliott is an absolute beast. He is the real deal and I rarely get hyped up about a player, but it will be insane to see what he does in the next three years. Eubanks isn't too shabby himself honestly..nice to have two guys like that on your offense. Ryle's kick/punt return defense is..lacking. But so is Covcath's.

 

As for CovCath, offensively, there was just nothing. On the bright side, the o-line looked pretty good. Erpenbeck had plenty of time to throw, just doesn't have much accuracy, but I'm sure he'll work on that. He obviously got scared to throw, so he tucked and ran too quick a lot, and quite honestly, I don't think he is tough enough to take hits all the time, so hopefully in the next week they figure out how to get the passing game going. This is coupled with his recievers having some issues too. Connelly may have some work on his knowledge on how to recieve, but man can he jump lol. I liked the aggressiveness of the defense, but...it's going to be a rough season I think. They just have a lot of work to do...best of luck down in Lexington next week...

 

Nice to see the students out supporting their team. They stayed pretty much the whole time when last year they'd have left after the first quarter. Hopefully they saw how much that affected the team last year and realize their presence is important.

Sure, you can debate whether that was because CCH doesn't seem to have much of a ground game or whether Ryle was the cause of that or a combination of both, but at the end of the day, they gave up practically no rushing yards to anyone other than the QB. If you weren't at least somewhat impressed with Ryle's pass defense, then you have some pretty high standards. Ryle's DB's played extremely well tonight. The second interception tonight by Senvinsky was outstanding. Again, they weren't facing anywhere close to the best passing offense that they will see this season, but they absolutely dominated the one they did face tonight. Ryle's defense is plenty good enough to keep them in almost any game this year. They will have their ups and downs like every other team, but this is solid defense with a lot of speed that has completely dominated both offenses they have faced so far this season. Great job tonight, Ryle D!

Coop, yes they are good enough, if Ryle plays CovCath type of teams all season long but they don't! The 6A in NKy is about as strong from top to bottom as I have seen in a long, long time and in fact it just might be the most competitive district (and I am including all six divisions) in all of Kentucky

 

Lets see next week what Ryle does with the Bluebirds! If you hold the Bluebirds to what you did CovCath :notworthy::notworthy: "you and I both know that isn't going to happen". Let me restate, if you hold the Bluebirds to less that 24 points I will say I was wrong about the Ryle "D"

 

Now understand I think Ryle could beat HHS this season, if the "D" holds HHS to under 24!
