A couple of alarming stats for the Colonels "D" coordinator--429 yards rushing and 27 for 238 is pretty strong, but 6 returns for 232 is insane--Long year for CovCath if they don't turn that around?? :scared:

CovCath "D" to me at least looked better than it's "O" tonight. Sure the "D" gave up 34 points, but when the "O" gives up the ball so many times close to mid field what do you except.

 

Far too many dumb and stupid penalties on the "O" side of the ball to beat pretty much anyone tonight.

 

I really wonder why CovCath with a brand new coach, and a brand new system offensively, chose to play only one scrimmage game. I believe it would have helped them play better tonight, if they had played two scrimmage games prior to this game.

 

What a beautiful night it was for a HS football game and stadium was packed with fans from both schools.

 

Outstanding job done by this years version of the CovCath Crazies. It looked like the entire student body attended the game tonight.

Elliott is a stud and if Ryle uses him as much as they did tonight even with the game being over with 4 minutes left in the game, he will break every running record that Shaun Alexandria owns!

CovCath goes from the oven into the fire, with playing LexCath @ LexCath next Friday!

For some reason both schools chose to play this game in what is known as "week zero." Because of that, you're only allowed to have one scrimmage.

 

I agree that they needed two to get a better feel for who can play and who can't.

Interesting thought, but didnt CovCath give up something like 650 yards rushing to Johnson Central last year? If so, CovCath has given up over 1000 yards rushing in there last 2 games.

Can you really say that last years team was better, after one scrimmage and one game? Didnt last years team lose 54-0 in there first game? Granted, the opponent was a lot better last year.

I thought Ryle looked slightly better than last year and CovCath is not as good as last year. It is going to be a very long year for CCH.

 

I don't know about CovCath not being as good as last year. This group seemed to battle to the end and has some things to build on for next week.

 

A couple of notes:

 

1) The holding call that negated a CovCath td was a back breaker.

2) The CovCath reciever in the endzone needs to come back to the ball and not let the Ryle defender back into the play.

3) Ryle was probably working on different things, but I thought they tried too many passes. When it seemed like the running game was taking over, they would mix in a pass play.

4) Lastly, CovCath looked slow. That will be a killer against others teams on the schedule.

CovCath needs to get tougher and better conditioned. I couldnt count how many CovCath players had cramps. Also, the wrs for Covcath need a lot of work. Connelly,#16,needs to realize you have to come back for the ball and catch it at its highest point. An example would be the fade in the endzone in the 3rd. He had his man beat, but kept running.

 

I agree conditioning was a problem for CCH with cramps and getting sick. The worst part is the weather was cool so that is a red flag for CCH.

At the end of the day for CCH the school is low on talent. We saw it in all three major sports last year and the varsity football teams looks like a JV team. You can't blame the lack of talent on Dave Brossart either.

I agree on the the low talent in football and basketball but the baseball team had some players last year - Maile, Isler and a couple others.

I agree Baseball may not fit but Football and Basketball for sure. The point is the talent is down.

Seems a little strong to me there Ru. I mean, to say the school is low on talent??? Soccer has continued to do very well, baseball, cross country, golf, tennis and even track won state this past year didn't they? I don't think you can do that if the school has no talent. And If the basketball team did not have all the injuries and illnesses I am sure they would have won a lot more games than they did. Would they have beaten holmes - No, but would have had a typical Cov Cath year.

Sorry I misread I guess with all the Ryle superlatives in the initial post? Didn't know which team Ritter is on--Sure do now.

IMO CovCath looked to be about on par with Dixie. That would be a good match.

 

Ryle played a little sloppy and has plenty to work on, but should be pleased with the potential they have shown the last two Friday nights.

 

For CovCath it could have been much worse if not for the 3 long kickoff returns which put them in scoring position right after Ryle scores and to start the second half. I am surprised none of them were taken all the way. Ryle's long TD drive in the 3rd after CovCath's 2nd TD was the coup de 'etat.
