August 18, 200917 yr http://www.suathletics.com/news/2009/8/17/FB_0817094208.aspxAt the very least, it will be worth watching how he does. Syracuse's problems are at every position, though, so whether he makes them competitive in the conference is left to be seen.
August 18, 200917 yr I have a hard time believing that the right decision for a totally rebuilding team like Syracuse with a new coach would be to start a one year player at quarterback. In my mind this means he must be light-years better than Syracuse's other quarterback candidates even though he has not played the sport for nearly five years. If I were the new coach of the Orangemen, I would be inclined to go with a youth movement and have a young quarterback grow into the job so that my team have a veteran quarterback in a couple of years. A one year and out quarterback greatly prolongs the rebuilding process.
August 18, 200917 yr I remember when the Cuse had a very good program, they've really fallen off the map recently.
August 18, 200917 yr Author Is it safe to say that Dick Vitale will be covering a few NCAA football games this season?

If all of the talent has to be rebuilt, wouldn't it be better to let the youth sit back a year and learn the system, allowing the other positions to mature first, like the O-Line? That way you don't get your young quarterback of the future maimed or killed his freshman year. This isn't Notre Dame. They can take their time rebuilding.

Unfortunately based upon last year the Cuse is miles ahead of Notre Dame already.
August 18, 200917 yr Good to hear. I really hope that he does good and shows off some stuff that he had back in high school. I am going to have to follow the Cuse' now this year in football.
August 18, 200917 yr I never liked Paulus at Duke, but I am hoping he does well. This makes Syracuse a little bit interesting starting out the season. I am not sure what it says in that a guy who hasn't played football in 4 years comes in, and in 1 week is named starter at D1 school.

What does it say about your current QB's when a SU's coach, before he had ever seen Paulus throw a football, says that he could come in and compete for the starting spot?

August 18, 200917 yr Just guessing here, but a kid that's 3 or 4 years older physically and was a stud QB in high school probably could come and compete. Now if he had just sat around for that time maybe, but I think he competed at a fairly high level of athletics.
