That's a ton full of smack to be talking when the current class of Leslie Co. seniors has won the same number of playoff games as the current senior classes from Shawnee, Magoffin Co., and Knott Co. Central. Leslie Co.'s problem is they are in store for a decent season in the same year that Middlesboro, Belfry, Shelby Valley, and Prestonsburg are all in for decent seasons. It equals an 8-4 record and a second round playoff loss -- quite possibly at the hands of Breathitt Co. depnding on how fast their quarterback returns from a knee injury.

I forget his name, but I think he is either a Freshman or Sophmore. The fact that they are running a wishbone-style offense should help as far as him not having to throw the ball as much. The strength of Breathitt is their o-line and defence this year, so, they will have a couple of "squeakers" IMO.

Leslie has the talent this year coming back and the right mindset to win state. Time will tell how good this team is, but this is the last time for a while that Leslie will be able to put "Leslie" and "State Championship" in the same sentence. For all of you comparing them stopping the run from this year to last year, two years... two different tales. During the M-boro and Breathitt games they did not play as a team and fell apart, blaming each other for ones mistake and imploding. IMO, I don't think that this team will do that, it has WAY too much senior leadership coming back to allow that to happen for a second straight year. I believe they can challenge for state, but like everyone has said this is all talk, and only time will tell...

Fort Campbell is the prohibitive favorite in the region because most of the other contenders — Owensboro Catholic, Glasgow and Trigg County — had some big talent losses. And with the Falcons able to play at home in the semifinals, assuming they make it there, they have to be the favorite to be in Louisville.

Glasgow had more than a talent loss, HC Jerry Eubank retired at the end of the school year. I expect the next few years could be rough for the scotties...

I will rate my personal 2A Rankings out of the East, and in that order are the chances I rate them of making it to Louisville.

 

1.Prestonsburg-This could be the year for the Blakcats...must beat Belfry

2.Russell-The loss of Gross will hurt but they will still be a top contender

3.Belfry-Best 2A program in the state right now, next year they will return to the top IMO but they are one year away but I hope the Pirates win title again

4.Lloyd Memorial-The word in NKY is that they may have their best team in a long time and NKY produces great talent

5.Breathitt County-Breathitt has some holes to fill but Holcomb abd Chapman will have the Bobcats ready come playoff time and they could make a big run

6.Middlesboro-Great program that has been down lately and returns a lot of experience but is still very young...they will be dangerous in 06 and 07.

7.Fleming County-I know they have a good offense but they still have to win the big one and I say Russell takes them out again.

8.Newport-I don't know too much about them but you can't overlook NKY teams. I wold guess that they will have to beat Lloyd to advance.

9.Leslie County-The Eagles have a good QB, but they play in a tough region and they will make the 2nd round at best.

10.Shelby Valley-The next 2A powerhouse from Region 4 IMO, though it will take some time. They play in tough district and region and won't do much this year but are defintely a team to keep a eye on in the future and will be much improved from last year

 

Teams such as Sheldon Clark, Morgan County, Estill County, and East Carter may deserve to be on the list but I don't know anything about them and what they have returning.

Looks good to me. It's likely Lloyd will play Fleming, and Russell will get Newport in Round 2. Should be interesting...

Ok I keep seeing this stuff, and I have not said anything, but I have to now. Leslie will get to 2nd round, and that is it. I have seen people from Leslie say this will be the best team ever. The best team was a 13-1 team that lost to Cov. Cath. in the semi-state. And you guys will not be better than that. I think Leslie may have beat P-burg the year they were runner-up, and Leslie could have been the runner-up that year. Leslie Co. could make it to state this year, but the reason they did not beat P-burg, and the reason they will not go to state this year is coaching. I am telling you people I have seen some great teams from Leslie since 1999, but coaching has hurt you guys. Need to get a great staff in place.

Looks pretty good to me, MF. Personally I think Russell and Pburg could swap places very easily and you could shake 5-9 up and put them in just about any order.

 

To answer the other question, Breathitt lost a lot of players, especially on offense, but coaching keeps them in the hunt in the east, IMO.
