Newport and Lloyd can go either way. They both return alot. Should be a nice season finale in Newport. Both should go deep in the playoffs. Hopefully it runs through Newport this year.

Middlesboro returns a lot but I don't think that will be enough to reach Louisville. They and Breathitt have a lot of questions to answer. OCath from the west isn't a bad pick. A team that may surprise some people is DeSales.

 

I picked Prestonsburg over Corbin, but that was before I knew about Ware moving to Tennessee. P'burg over Fort Campbell.

Ok I keep seeing this stuff, and I have not said anything, but I have to now. Leslie will get to 2nd round, and that is it. I have seen people from Leslie say this will be the best team ever. The best team was a 13-1 team that lost to Cov. Cath. in the semi-state. And you guys will not be better than that. I think Leslie may have beat P-burg the year they were runner-up, and Leslie could have been the runner-up that year. Leslie Co. could make it to state this year, but the reason they did not beat P-burg, and the reason they will not go to state this year is coaching. I am telling you people I have seen some great teams from Leslie since 1999, but coaching has hurt you guys. Need to get a great staff in place.

 

Leslie Co. didn't beat Pburg that year. Pburg beat them 33-0.

I would be lying if I said that I thought the '02 team could win the title, because I knew all they could do was pass the ball, and run with Haddix. They were inconsistant that year, but there was no one to take advantage of that inconsistancy. Russell had the best chance, and should have won that game, but. . . .. . . . . . ..

 

You can be unbalanced and win as long as you're dominating at what you do. And Breathitt also had a dominant defense as well.

 

And Belfry the past two years is evidence of this as well.

Leslie will never have a better team that the teams with Couch. Plain and simple.

 

If that's a fact then there shouldn't be any debate about the 2A champs.

I honestly don't have a clue who will win 2A. I doubt Breathitt County will do it. The defense should keep them in most games, at least I hope. The offense is a huge question mark...they lost Hundley, Lamb and Warren, which was basically the pass offense. Robinson is a good back, but they'll need more than him to be a real contender. Most teams in 2A have a lot of holes to fill, so if the Bobcat D is stout and the offense comes around...who knows? But me personally, I have my doubts.

Right on! Very stingy defense is the common denominator among state champions. If you keep forcing 3 and outs and TO's, then your one-dimensional offense will put some points on the board sooner or later.

Yes you are correct, that Prestonsburg team was loaded with seniors, that as Juniors was beaten out in the Semis (of state not the region :sssh: ) and then the next year we went to state.

That Leslie Co. team was loaded with Juniors, and they were supposed to contend for a state title the next year with Chris Barger and Co. but never quiet panned out.

 

I watched Leslie Co. twice last year, and they are going to have to improve greatly to contend for a state title. They have no Justin Haddix's, Doug Howard's, David Jones's or as I like to call GAME BREAKERS. Morgan has a nice arm, but he let a weak Middlesboro( by MHS standards that is) beat him to death last year. As other posters have already stated you must have a defense. I sat at the Middlesboro game, and called every play that MHS was going to run, and Leslie couldn't stop it. Now surely the coaches at Leslie know as much football as I do, and could tell their players where to go.

 

So let's see from my observations of last year's team. They have

 

* No GAMEBREAKERS (sorry Morgan fans, he'll have to do a little more to impress me)

* A suspect Defense

* No depth

* And no consistancy to the offense ( 3 and out a majority of the time)

 

You all can talk about the mindset all you want to, but goto Betsy Layne High School and watch a few games, I've been on their sideline before and they believe they are going to win everytime they take the field. But that won't get you anything but a cup of water. (I'm not bashing BL I'm just making a point).

 

Fact is Leslie Co. fan's you can rest assure if your Eagles aren't as good as you say they are then you are gonna "have some splainin to do". Because after all this HYPE, they better be darn good.
