May 26, 200917 yr Not the Ace of the staff. A position player if necessary. Nobody's going to use a position player in a tie game....nobody.
May 26, 200917 yr I don't have to much of a problem with him going back out there. I would guess it would be Burton or Fisher. Should be Burton but likely will be Fisher.
May 26, 200917 yr Enough said....... Are you aware of how the justice system works? Innocent until proven guilty....And he was never proven guilty. Maybe he did it, maybe not. Yes, its more likely the first....but no one can label his as a murderer because the courts found him not guilty. Maybe he should have been proven guilty....but he wasn't...simple as that
May 26, 200917 yr Nobody's going to use a position player in a tie game....nobody. Enough for me about last year. It was a mistake to use him then and start him as quickly as he did after. That was proven by how bad he was after that. Hoprfully he doesn't go south after this episode.

Maybe he should have been proven guilty....but he wasn't...simple as that Is the civil ruling by the court somehting that doesn't count? If nobody is convicted in criminal court of murder did the murders not happen? Are they secretly alive? This is the last thing I'm going to say about this. Just b/c someone says something doesn't make it so. That was my point in using OJ. I could have said ARod said many times he never used steriods until he was caught. The point wasn't that OJ is a murderer (even though he is) it's that people lie.
May 26, 200917 yr I get so sick and tired of people blaming Dusty Baker for injuries to pitchers. Pitcher's get hurt all the time. Pitching puts so much pressure on your elbow and shoulder its like a time bomb. Especially when you have bad mechanics like Kerry Wood and Mark Prior did. Its amazing we don't see more blown out elbows and shoulders to be honest.Mark Prior didn't have bad mechanics. In fact, some baseball people thought his excellent mechanics might help him overcome the obvious overwork.

What would Kerry Wood and Mark Prior gain from lying and saying Dusty wasn't the reason for their injuries? If they honestly believed he was the reason, they would have came out and bashed Dusty for over using them. Pitchers today have been babied. You didn't see people going nuts when pitchers threw 300 innings in a season. Nolan Ryan is forcing Texas's minor league teams to keep pitchers deep into games because he feels starting pitchers have been babied to much and I have to agree with him.
May 26, 200917 yr Kerry Wood and Mark Prior both have stated many times that Dusty is not to blame for their injuries.Understandable ... they didn't want to throw their manager under the bus. The fact is that both pitchers had major overuse questions in 2003 because of some heavy pitch counts .... all that was cited at the time.
May 26, 200917 yr That will be about enough gentlemen, let's reel this thing back into Reds discussion.:thumb:

Simply going by what the baseball tonight people said fairly recently. Honestly, I dont know enough about pitching, or cared enough about Prior or Wood to know much about their mechanics. Maybe they're wrong....but if it was Dusty to blame you'd surely see more than two pitchers ruin careers under his many years in the game.
May 26, 200917 yr Good win for the Reds. Anytime the 3 studs can get a rest and you can score 8 runs you have to feel good about your team.

It will be very interesting to see what comes out of Nolan's decision to do that. I'm sure it will be heavily followed. Were there no pitching injuries back when the pitchers pitched that much? What happened to that Tommy John guy? W/ the advancement of all things medical, including testing, surgeries, and just general other advancements I'd be more compelled to be overly cautious than the other way around. If Ryan is on to something others will adapt. We shall see. If you don't think Harang struggled b/c of his relief appearnce that's fine. I however believe it was the only thing that caused his down year.

The GM had to of noticed and should have given him a DL stint long before he did. Harang should have stepped up and said he needed 2 weeks off after 2 or 3 bad starts instead of after 10 or so bad starts. But he had no one else to pitch at the time. He even pitched Volquez. You try to win games like that and throwing a position player would have been giving up.

Hopefully trying to let him get a win today doesn't cost them 10 this year.
