Clyde Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 What is the deal with all of the theatrics in pro sports now? LeBron's pregame schtick is getting tiresome. Now Superman does some lame turn around jump shot routine before he heads onto the floor. Then you've got handshakes and dances that would make Bob Fosse blush(look it up, youngsters). Jeezel Pete. Make it stop. Where's my blanket?
BigSpikes Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I'm a youngster, but I've always liked the Chalk routine; I liked it when KG and Jordan did it as well. It's just really cool to me.
Original Rookie Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I don't mind it, but I don't "like" it either.
Clyde Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 It makes things more fun... Grandpa wants to know how Dwight Howard's fake shot makes the game more fun or how the 14-step handshake makes the game more fun.
CatsCatsCats Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Well let's go back to the boring NBA basketball of the 3 or 4 years ago. The young players in the NBA are exciting, and are making the NBA fun again. They are different than the personality-lacking stars of earlier in the decade.
Clyde Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 Well let's go back to the boring NBA basketball of the 3 or 4 years ago. The young players in the NBA are exciting, and are making the NBA fun again. They are different than the personality-lacking stars of earlier in the decade. So you like the "game" because of the theatrics? Interesting. I like the game for the game itself but that's me. I realize this is a generational thing. B-ball was always the entertainment for me but it seems like many now want to be entertained while they're being entertained.
JBCousins Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I thought the mock "family photo" routine the Cavs were doing when the starting line-ups were introduced was hilarious. Keeps them loose and having fun. Hard to argue with it when they were 40-1 in "meaningful" home games this year. Not sure the exact situation but after a big road loss, they came home, no one said anything about a pregame routine and they blew a pretty decent team out of the gym. So, they know when they need to stay loose and when it's time to play. Point is, it wouldn't work so well or be funny if the Clippers did it.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I don't feel like they hurt anything or anyone. If I was playing an 82 game season, plus playoffs, I would need something fun before the game to help keep me loose too.
stick1 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 The game is exciting but junk like this has killed the purity of the sport like most others. It's all about the look at me stuff. My favorite player ever in any sport was Ronnie Lott. He played for his TEAM and played to knock your head off. I have to admit looking back I was a huge Deion Sanders fan. Now I realize he is part of what started the whole thing. I was young and dumb back then lol.
