April 26, 200917 yr I love what they did. Even though I knew they would never do this, but I would have loved to see them trade one of their 3rd round picks, and another to get into the 2nd round again and draft Max Unger. Overall I think they did a great job. They still need a C at some point, but Ray Ray was hard to pass up. I give them a A-.

To me these are two of the best players, if not the best players they have drafted since Palmer. Being a consistent bottom dweller, you really can't pass on top 15 talent if available in the 2nd round. I think teams on the verge of being really good should draft need, but Bengals did what they needed to do. JMO

April 26, 200917 yr The still need a center but I can't scorn them for taking Rey in round two. Overall I like what they've done and hope they make two more solid picks in round three.
April 26, 200917 yr I don't know about Mauluga. His wonderlic score was flat awful, if I recall correctly. I know that that test is not the end all be all, but I would like my MLB to be the most intelligent person on my defense considering the responsibility that goes with. He doesn't need to quote Shakespeare, but I'd like him to be able to register a lot of info quickly. Hopefully I'm wrong. They could have added depth at C, WR, and CB.
April 26, 200917 yr I have been playing, watching, and coaching football a long time, and Maualuga is as good a pure MLB as I have ever seen. I believe he will draw comparisons to the great ones. His falling to the 2nd round is a function of the number of teams moving to the 3-4 as anything else, and I think the Bengals got an incredible bargain.
April 26, 200917 yr Like the Andre Smith pick, there's a reason he won the Outland trophy. Really love the Rey Maualuga pick. That cat is a head busta and thats exactly what we need in the middle of our defense. Dude is an animal.
April 26, 200917 yr A, they need to protect Palmer and getting another solid USC LB will sure up the defense some.
April 26, 200917 yr Really? What did you want see? I would have rather seen a Center in the 2nd round but I agree with the pick made since the top two centers were off the board. Also, since there has been some questions about Smith I don't think you can give him an A. I think you have to go with a B+ and hope that he can earn the A. Don't get me wrong. I thought the Bengals did a great job but I am not ready to say A just yet.
April 26, 200917 yr A I feel like (for once) they took the most talented player available in both rounds. I was shocked they didn't blow that second pick. I was wanting Maualuga or Barwin when I saw there available. I think Cincy and Philly had the best day 1.
April 26, 200917 yr I'd say A. I liked Monroe better with the 1st pick but they got would looks like a stud (as long as his shirt is on lol). I was suprised the Center from Cal was gone so early then Wood came off the board. I think with that happening and Myluga falling that far they got a steal. He has a legit shot to be rookie of the year. He has always struggled in space but is a head rocker and you have to be with Pitt's and Balt! He and Rivers have played together which is also a plus IMO because you trust each other on the field. I too hoped they would move up and get the C from Ore but it could be worse. This is a good draft for C+Wr's. I would like to see them get the FB from Lville later on tomorrow. Pass rush DE but probably won't find one this late and Safety are areas that need improved.

I thought the Bengals did a great job but I am not ready to say A just yet. Fair enough. There is still a good C they can get, that's A.Q Shipley from Penn St. who I think can come right in and contribute. As far as Smith, I could see where people would want Monroe because he will be a better LT, but put Smith at right tackle and I don't think you will see alot of what happened last season, and that is defender pushing OL back into ball carrier. He is just about immovable as it gets. Another plus is he has pretty good agility for being 330+. I listen to Lap talk about the top 3 tackles and his #1 guy to get was Smith. I put alot of stock into what he says about O lineman.
