April 26, 200917 yr He is not a high character guy, but the talent is definitly there. I agree. I was just pointing out to FF, that this kid does have??ss Edited April 27, 200917 yr by Ram Rule 13
April 26, 200917 yr If I'm not mistaken he got kicked off the team because he had contact with an agent. Not a big deal IMO.
April 26, 200917 yr If I'm not mistaken he got kicked off the team because he had contact with an agent. Not a big deal IMO. That was the initial report but I do believe that was later said to not be true. Not sure exactly why he was kicked off.
April 26, 200917 yr That was the initial report but I do believe that was later said to not be true. Not sure exactly why he was kicked off. Interesting. All I know is people around Bama have never had anything bad to say about Smith, so I'll trust their opinions.

April 26, 200917 yr Yeah getting kicked off your team and missing the Sugar Bowl is no big deal at all:ohbrother: It has zero impact on him in the NFL, so no it's not a big deal.
April 26, 200917 yr It has zero impact on him in the NFL, so no it's not a big deal. I agree with that. Just shows his decsion making may not be team oriented. I seriously hope he works out. The Bengals need him to.
April 26, 200917 yr I agree with that. Just shows his decsion making may not be team oriented. I seriously hope he works out. The Bengals need him to. Or that he got caught up in the #1 pick hype that was going on at the time, and made a bad decision. Everyone around Bama seems to think he's a good character guy, and they don't hold it against him, so why should you?
April 26, 200917 yr Yeah getting kicked off your team and missing the Sugar Bowl is no big deal at all:ohbrother: He missed the Sugar Bowl due to illegal contact with an agent. That's more the agent's fault than his, although there is plenty of blame to be spread around. The bottom line is that he was the #1 or #2 pick at that time. He made a poor decision and things snowballed for him. He later fired that agent. I love the pick. The guy has talent & he was a great lineman in the SEC. Also, it's been reported that one of the reasons he made a comeback closer to the draft is because of how much support Nick Saban showed for him.
April 26, 200917 yr I agree with that. Just shows his decsion making may not be team oriented. I seriously hope he works out. The Bengals need him to. Or it could show how some agents hawk towards the top prospects and violate their own code of honor. I don't hold anything against the kid for having contact with an agent. There's no doubt it was a bad decision, but it doesn't affect his ability at all. If that's his "character issues", I wish we had more players with "character issues."

April 26, 200917 yr I think the Bengals draft would have to be at least an A. To have the lb fall in their lap and still address many needs has to be a high grade. I would still like to see a fb.
April 26, 200917 yr I agree. i was just pointing out to FF, that this kid does have??ss It's a good point, and with the locker room problems cincy has had adding another guy who has not been a true locker room leader could be like throwing gas on a flame.
April 26, 200917 yr The fact remains that the Bengals have NOT got totally away from drafting people that have had issues. I know most of these guys are not choir boys, but the Bengals have been burned too many times not to mention it.
April 26, 200917 yr Of course Nick Saban is going to talk good about him. He didn't have to. There is a difference between asking questions & going out of your way to promote a guy. Smith was suspended for the team's final bowl game. They lost their bowl game. Saban has plenty of reasons to be disappointed with the way their season ended.
