March 31, 200917 yr It has nothing to do with boosters or gameshoes. I am just relating it to the pure economics of the game. The highest paid coach is Donovan, who is making 3.5 million per year. He has two national championships. I just can't see paying a go with zero national championships and only two final four appearances a couple more million than that. That makes no sense. The base salary is paid by the institution, not outside sources. 8 years, 35 million is not a couple million more per year than Donovan.
March 31, 200917 yr 8 years, 35 million is not a couple million more per year than Donovan. $4.375 million/year to be exact for this possible contract.
March 31, 200917 yr 8 years, 35 million is not a couple million more per year than Donovan. Hey, I'm not good with math... Seriously, I hadn't heard that number. The number I saw was on ESPN, they keep saying over a 5 million per year deal.
March 31, 200917 yr 8 years, 35 million is not a couple million more per year than Donovan. That is one report. Another says 6.67 million a year.
March 31, 200917 yr The education is available to the average person...If the "Price is Right" at any university. Give it a rest and find another soap box. Thanks. Great post. Card fans are worried. Ricky P shooed BD away but not Cal.
April 5, 200917 yr He may really believe it, but that doesn't mean it's his dream job. That only applies to former UK players and Kentucky natives raised as UK fans. Why is it so hard to accept that not everyone loves UK the way you guys do? I'm calling you out because you took his mention of "Notre Dame" to mean his "dream job." You could interpret the "Notre Dame" comment a number of ways, yet you only entertained one — the one that suited you. People aren't exactly bowling themselves over to go coach NDU. "Holding it in high esteem" doesn't mean the same thing as "love." I have a great deal of respect for the UK hoops program. Are you mistaking that as well? I went back today and watched Cal's press conference as I was in Florida when it happened and only saw clips of it. It made me think about this thread and I thought I'd offer Jim a chance to make a retraction of his statement about whether Coach Calipari thought of UK as a dream job......:walk: Edited April 5, 200917 yr by AverageJoesGym
April 5, 200917 yr Author He refered to UK as the "Notre Dame of college basketball". He told Todd and Mitch that monday "was not soon enough" to talk. I still think he meant that UK was HIS dream job all along, no matter what JS said.

April 6, 200917 yr  And you are still waiting on Jim. I'd say I'll be waiting awhile. Especially after Calipari called UK a dream job since he brought his 1992 team to Lexington.

April 6, 200917 yr He told Andy Katz he would have taken less money if UK had offered less. A very easy statement to make since the deal is done. We'll never know for sure.
