March 30, 200917 yr And that will help with the money. The huge deal between ESPN and the SEC will bring in much more money for the school, which would help offset the huge payday for Calipari and huge buyouts for Gillispie and Memphis. So will higher ticket prices, an increase in tuition and pay raise freeze for university employees
March 30, 200917 yr So will higher ticket prices, an increase in tuition and pay raise freeze for university employees Also Lee Todd, Barnhart and other higher up administrators thinking that its alright to not give raises to any professors, not hiring any more staff, and reducing the number of admittants to UK in addition to choosing to not give up their bonuses during these hard economic times.

No matter what kind of TV deal... 4-5 million for a college baketball coach just seems insane. Especially when the old coach still might be hitting them for a 6 mill spot.
March 31, 200917 yr Come on guys, what's more important, an education or basketball. This is Kentucky!!

Oh, how you are mistaken. UK basketball is a multi-million dollar a year venture. They have boosters that can match or exceed any offer...coal mines and horse farms...any questions?

March 31, 200917 yr Come on guys, what's more important, an education or basketball. This is Kentucky!! Is that a serious question? Education of a young man or woman of a student-athlete will always come first before their respective sport. Most of these kids won't even sniff playing a pro-league where they are payed money for their services. Most of them will be using the education they obtained in school to make a living for themselves and contribute to our nation.
March 31, 200917 yr The education is available to the average person...If the "Price is Right" at any university. Give it a rest and find another soap box. Thanks.

So...a basketball coach is worth more than an entire staff of professors? Tuition increases will prohibit an average person an opportunity to get an education at UK, and may cause some already there to have to leave. Those are some screwed up priorities.

I think the basketball program brings in more than enough money to justify it.

I agree and the talk on another thread of just throwing out players to get better players. I understand why UK fans get a bad rap. They earn it. And I am one of them. :scared:

While it may not be right... It's like this everywhere not just UK. How much is Pitino making? Chances are you could hire a whole slew of professors and drop tuition quite a bit if they cut his salary.
March 31, 200917 yr As Bob Barker would say..." The Price is Right"! It has nothing to do with boosters or gameshoes. I am just relating it to the pure economics of the game. The highest paid coach is Donovan, who is making 3.5 million per year. He has two national championships. I just can't see paying a go with zero national championships and only two final four appearances a couple more million than that. That makes no sense. The base salary is paid by the institution, not outside sources. This isn't professional sports, this is college sports. I'm sory, a 4 or 5 million dollar salary is just setting the bar too high.
