Highlands Coaching Candidates?

Featured Replies

In a baseball thread it was said that Mike Herald was released as coach of Bellevue. Does anyone think he will throw his hat into the ring at Highlands? I believe his son played for the Birds and went on to play college ball.

How many coaches in the last 5 years will that make for Bellevue? I can definitely see Herald applying, but I think the Birds will end up with a man named Code.

Why would Scott Code want to leave Campbell County?

Dan Sullivan would be a great choice. Highlands needs to get a top line coach. They cannot do the retreads of Vories, Herald, etc. What about Wolfzorn who built the girls Bracken program from the basement and then had a great year at Bellevue. Isn't he a Highlands grad?

:ohbrother: What are you talking about in regards to retreads? Vories is happy coaching 8th grade voluntarily I might add and would be the perfect Varsity assistant. I certainly don't think he has any interest in being a Varsity HC. Sullivan has proven he can coach at the VArsity level and is also very involved in coaching at WV right now with the younger kids.

Wolfzorn simply wouldnt have a chance at a job like Highlands based soley on lack of experience at the Varsity level. From what Dale Mueller has said in the paper there are plenty of highly qualified Teacher/Coaches who have already applied.

And I do feel that Vories and Herald (who has been touted by a few on here) are not the type of coach that can keep Highlands at the top or near the top.

This isn't going to happen for a few weeks folks............ The story is that Mike Code briefly considered the position and then re-stated that he is not an applicant. Mike was the only "in-house" candidate; being a teacher at HHS & a qualified coach (as stated earlier, it was his job to take) Since he has disqualified himself as an interested party, it will remain open until late April.

The deadline for submitting retirement notice is April 15th.....at that time HHS (and applicants) will know what teaching positions will be available. There are already some applications accepted but others will likely be predicated on whether they can also teach at HHS as well. Bottom line, until late April when they actually compare the applicants, there will be no news, only speculation.

Mike Flynn would be an awesome choice.....I believe he is a principal at the learning academy so he might be able to be pursuaded out of that administration job.

I know Mike Flynn is wanting to get back into coaching. This would be an excellent hire.

Is Brad Carr a legit candidate?

Lots of talk that the Code will be Scott.

If Scott comes open I know of a candidate that would be very interested and if Jeff Trame has anything to do w/ the hire he would probably get it.
