My problem with all of this is the hype of whomever is the next coach. Willie is a good coach. But people thought there needed to be a change from Coach Messmer who won 4 regional titles and had a state runner up to get Willie in the door. His dedication to the program lasted 5 years as the head coach when there are others that have waited many, many years just for the opportunity to be the head coach. End result no regional titles. There is no involvement at the grade or middle school level and we wonder why there is no excitement with the boys. Coaches in the 7th and 8th programs don't even embrace or teach the same thing Willie does. If they don't it will be more of the same which is just barely above .500 for the last 5 years. And you worry about a sixth grade program?

Also I would guess that Highlands is waiting to see what teaching spots open. I would be surprised if they didn't require the coach to be a teacher in the building - and a good one at that.

I didn't mean to forget Neltner. I thought I was doing pretty good for a non-Highlands guy. I agree he should be high on the not necessarily in order list.
