March 24, 200917 yr Author I am really confused as to why a UofL fan is so upset about all of this. Not upset at all. Just not sur ewhat UK fans want? A guy who wins or a guy to play nice with others?
March 24, 200917 yr ^ So you're saying coaching wise he won the games he should have the last two years?
March 24, 200917 yr Not upset at all. Just not sur ewhat UK fans want? A guy who wins or a guy to play nice with others? Every UK coach in my lifetime has done both. Why can't Gillispie?
March 24, 200917 yr If my math is right, there are approximately 20 threads all related to the Billy Clyde and his potential exit from UK. This is insane!! How many threads to we need? Can we combine them into one giant thread that everyone can cite their 'sources' and tell us who the new coach will be even while we still have a coach? I remember there being multiple Tubby bashing threads, but never 20 different related discussions all at one time. My mind is boggled!!! As for Billy Clyde, he should get one more year IMHO.
March 24, 200917 yr I think Gillispie is coming back to Kentucky next year. I don't think they will fire him. I could be wrong though.
March 24, 200917 yr Author ^ So you're saying coaching wise he won the games he should have the last two years? Not saying he has won every game he should have. What I am saying it takes a while to get kids to buy into what you are trying to do. Look what happened once Bradley and Crawford bought into his way of thinking.
March 24, 200917 yr Author Every UK coach in my lifetime has done both. Why can't Gillispie? Rick wasn't always smooth with the callers and media. He would would ignore people when he thought the question was stupid. Plus why should a coach have to do an interview at the end of the 1st half? He needs to get into the locker and make some adjustments. Not answer some question that everyone knows the answers too. Example: Reporter: Coach your team has not done a good job of rebounding this half. What are you plans for the second half to get your team to rebound better? Couple of answers could be: Coach:I plan to go into the locker room and smack some kids around and yell. That should get them going. or Coach: Yes we need to Rebound better.
March 24, 200917 yr Every UK coach in my lifetime has done both. Why can't Gillispie? I don't think this is a fair evaluation. Tubby, and now BCG are the only coaches that have coached through this 24/7 everything has to be done now society. I have often heard that Rupp's comments after the game went to the effect after a win, 'the boys went out their and executed what I taught them. After a loss "the boys didn't execute my game plan like they should have." How do you think that Rupp would have handled Billy Bob calling in asking him why Landon Slone doesn't get more minutes, or why doesn't he play zone. I am sure that BCG would like to respond, "how in the world at the University of Kentucky, do Porter, Harris, and Stephenson all get offered a scholarship in the same year."
March 24, 200917 yr He was hired at UK for one reason and one reason only, to WIN Championships. Not to play nice to the media Not true, the head coaching job at the University of Kentucky is just not that one dimensional. The job description is very broad and very demanding away from the court and it includes being an ambassador for the University and really, the entire Commonwealth. When the University handed Billy G the keys to the program we all understood that winning is key, no question. However, it is but one of many keys on the keyring.
March 24, 200917 yr He deserves one, maybe two more years to get his players into the system. He has two recruiting classes at UK so far, but most frosh don't contribute that much. He mostly goes after 4 and 5 star recruits, he needs to be able to recruit and develop his point guards. A PG or two, the big guy from Indy coming in next year, and add Pilgram, next year will be better. BUT it may take a 4th year to see huge results.

He created an easy PR excuse to fire him for his results. I agree that he needs at least one more year to show what he is capable of doing for UK.
