March 24, 200917 yr DANA POINT, Calif. _ The Bengals now have 11 picks in next month's draft after receiving the maximum four compensatory picks Monday and the extra third-rounder gives them five picks in the first 106 selections. http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=7571
March 24, 200917 yr How many picks can you mess up with 5 in the 1st 106? In all honesty, I like what the Bengals have done this offseason. They threw some $$ at TJ - he just didn't want to be here. I can't blame him for that. But we went out and signed a relatively big time WR who has a lot of speed. Successful drafts are typically determined on how your 3rd rounders pan out. Looks like the Bengals will have plenty of opportunities. Hopefully they're able to make the most of it, but I have my doubts...
March 24, 200917 yr Honestly, with those 5 picks in the top 106, I'd try and solidify both the offensive and defensive lines. It'll help protect Carson from getting mauled every game and will also help cover up some weaknesses in the secondary with a strong defensive line because of putting pressure on the opposing QB. Football games are won and lost in the trenches.

You seem to be discounting Mike Brown's ability to engage in large-scale ineptitude.

So if your one and two are horrible, but your 3rd rounder is solid you consider that successful??
March 24, 200917 yr I hope they learn from the Pats. Package some and trade up. The Pats are the king of getting picks, packaging them and getting better picks. Sometimes they put them off a year. Look at how many picks they will have in the top 100 this year.
March 24, 200917 yr So if your one and two are horrible, but your 3rd rounder is solid you consider that successful?? No, that's not what I said / meant. I'm saying that the difference between a good draft & a great draft is often how the 3rd rounder(s) pan out. IMO, there's no excuse for having a 1st round flop. With few exceptions...
