March 23, 200917 yr Someone in another thread mentioned how Tubby's tenure got worse while he was at UK. Well, of course, he won a title in his first year at UK. Where else is there to go? I present what Tubby could have done in order to appease UK fans and keep his tenure on the rise. Tubby impregnates Halle Barry and they call their child Herky Tubby pulls a Mr. Miyagi and brings out the black powder and claps over the grave of Cawood Ledford, bringing him back from the dead Tubby highly recommends a young reporter to ESPN. A former nanny for Saul and Gigi, the reporters earns her niche and is one of the most popular reporters on TV. You know her as Erin Andrews Tubby develops an idea for an online social network. Thanks to Tubby, you can find people on MySpace and Facebook Tubby enlists the help of Andy Dufresne and creates a mythical person named Craft who takes their proceeds and donates it for a new practice facility Had Tubby done these after winning the title in his first year, I think it's safe to say his tenure wouldn't have gone down hill.
March 23, 200917 yr Tubby goes to a Final Four with players that he recruited and brought to campus. :idunno:
March 23, 200917 yr I hadn't given those items any thought until now. Thanks for making me think!!!:thumb:

Win 2.
March 24, 200917 yr Tubby has this Kentucky team in the NCAA's, and last years team with more than 18 wins.
March 24, 200917 yr How does the last post keep him here? He did that before he left. It was not as much what he won as what he lost.

March 24, 200917 yr I've often wondered if things had fallen a little differently for the Cats then Tubby may still be here. I wonder if UK could have held on to their lead vs. Michigan State in '99 and the Cats made a 4th straight Final Four appearance how that may have impacted recruiting and the "mystique" of the program. I wonder if a foul had been called when Sparks hit the three to tie the Elite Eight game vs. MSU (see a pattern here.) and he sunk the FT to WIN the game. I don't think UK could have defeated UNC but another Final Four would be good. I wonder if Bogans is healthy, the Cats aren't playing in Marquette's back yard and Dwayne Wade is just a little less than Dwayne Wade - the Cats could have competed with any of the teams at that Final Four. It just shows how a few breaks can change the outcome or viewpoint of a coach.
March 24, 200917 yr Another final four in ten years really shouldn't be too much to ask. The lack of recruiting after the Rondo class was an obvious flaw, but other than that things were fine.

It just shows how a few breaks can change the outcome or viewpoint of a coach. I agree on all except the Marquette game. I am convinced that Wade and Marquette would have beaten anyone that night. I would like to think Bogans would have made that much of a difference, but we will never know. I agree that a few breaks and UK would have been in 3 final 4's in Tubby's tenure. Also, don't forget the game as the 8 seed versus UConn that came down to a rebounded missed FT for UConn that gave them the win. If they win that one, I think the Cats had an excellent shot that year at another final 4. If we are going to hear about the 3 games that UK lost on a last second shot this year (LSU, UL, and USC) and the impact on BCG this season (which they were huge and IF those shots don't fall, UK would have been in the big dance again IMHO), then we have to talk about those 3-4 games and their impact on Tubby's legacy.
March 24, 200917 yr Another final four in ten years really shouldn't be too much to ask. The lack of recruiting after the Rondo class was an obvious flaw, but other than that things were fine. He did have a few down years, that cannot be denied. But Jasper and Meeks were 2 gems, and Billy Clyde managed to run one of them off who could have been a HUGE factor for the Cats this year as a healthy PG. Also, it was much like Pitino's last few classes at UK. Who can you remember besides Magloire? The game had changed and when you have that much talent, it is hard to get more talent like them to come and sit the bench when they can go somewhere else and play right away. Tubby ran into some of that after the Morris, Rondo, Crawford and Bradley class.
March 24, 200917 yr Tubby ran into some of that after the Morris, Rondo, Crawford and Bradley class. So what was the excuse the year before? Anyway, I do agree that a few plays swinging the other way could have drastically changed Tubby's tenure. Another final four or two under his belt would have kept the heat off somewhat during his last two years. However, that said, when crucial plays in big games consistently go the other way, it may not just be bad luck.

Another final four or two under his belt would have kept the heat off somewhat during his last two years. However, that said, when crucial plays in big games consistently go the other way, it may not just be bad luck. As I have said before I completely disagree with this. If say we did make the final four once during the 03-05 run but just lost as soon as we got there. Then I don't think that would have taken any of the heat off Tubby from a lot of you all. Would have gave you all one less thing to mention, but then it probably would be Tubby can get us there but can't win it with his own players. I have said many times, I truly believe it really didn't matter what Tubby did here. Because for a lot of people they never wanted him here, because he was not Pitino. He would never be as good as Pitino was here, so he would never live up to that, so would never be good enough to people around here. Tubby never stood a chance with fans here, since he followed Pitino. Which I will admit was a very hard act to follow. But Tubby definitely wasn't as bad for this program as many of you all acted like he was. In the end it is better that we went our seperate ways though, just because Tubby would never have been accepted here no matter what. So it was best to go seperate ways, and the jury is still out in seeing if Billy G is the answer though.
