Kings of Leon

What is the story on these guys?

Have not listened to much rock for a while just a little of everything.

I really like their new song that is out.

The lead singer has a great voice.

They used to be a part of a Christian band in Nashville I believe, and broke out into the rock scene... I really like them, good music.

I'm not sure of the Christian band story. I believe their dad was a preacher and they used to travel with him, but that may be it.

There are three brothers in the band and their cousin is the bassist, I think.

I saw them at Headliner's in Louisville a couple years ago before they got big and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. They sound even better live.

Apparently, they have finally gotten some promotion from their label and are doing really well now.

But, by far, my favorite album is Aha, Shake, Heartbreak.

Father was an itinerant preacher throughout the south. His name, and his father's name, is Leon. They were not in a Christian band, as far as I can tell. They did play music at their father's services, if you want to count that.

They have fully embraced the rock'n'roll lifestyle, from what I've read, and a few of their songs are downright X-rated.

The cousin is lead guitarist.

I discovered them late, buying their current release on vinyl and working backward from there. Haven't found the debut album at a reasonable price yet, however, and had to get the CD. As I've listened to their albums, I recognize many songs that I have heard before and liked, just never knew who did them. So, I guess you could say I was a fan and didn't realize it.

"Aha Shake Heartbreak," I'm finding, is my favorite as well. Wish I could've seen them when they played in L'ville a couple months back. They seem to have gotten the "Grammy bump" at the box office window, pricing me out of consideration (I adhere to a $30 limit on what I'll pay for a concert).

I really like Kings of Leon. I listened to and liked a lot of their older stuff, but their two newer songs "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" are fantastic too.

I just bought only by the night...On Lp...of course...:cool:Listening to it right now...I'm digging it...Seems like I have heard the song Use Somebody...Maybe on the radio...I also picked up My Morning Jacket/Evil Urges...The Double LP also came with the CD...Thanks Jim...For the Advice...

I also picked up Johnny Cash...Cash...With the NIN song Hurt...:thumb:

Seems like everyone in their mother is on the Kings of Leon bandwagon. If I had a nickel for every person telling me they were going to see these guys, I would have a lot of nickels. They are not bad, but I guess I am missing out on what all the rage is about. I feel like it is the Coldplay hoopla of 5 years ago. Maybe I need to give it another shot.

Very interesting sound to me, but I feel like a lot of thier stuff sounds the same. (Full disclosure I have only heard what they play on the radio.) I really liked their stuff when I first heard them though. I agree with the bandwagon, seems to be the big thing right now.

Yeah, they're kind of gotten to the point where they've outgrown their indie cred. Their first two albums are outstanding, and the third one is very good. The most recent album that has led to their mainstream blow-up is good, but it is slicked-up, and I can see why it appeals to the mainstream.

I really enjoyed the second song on the new album. It's called Crawl. Very good song. Nice group. I remember them breaking around the time I was wrapping up college and I've been interested ever since.

They still press vinyl records?

I agree. Caleb's voice is very cleaned up in their most recent album. It's not as edgy and different as it used to be, but that doesn't take away too much for me. They are a great band, and its hard to blame them for wanting to go mainstream. They have a nice previous body of work to stand behind.

Actually, that industry has picked back up the last few years. Many artists (Chickenfoot for one) are releasing albums on LPs and CDs now.

That's probably my favorite song off the current album. Love that bass-heavy intro.

Anybody go see them at Rupp last weekend? I wanted to go, but couldn't make it.

My wife and I made the trip. We felt a little old, but still had a good time. Lots of college kids, and a few more teenie-boppers than I expected.
