I didn't see either Willie or a ref approach Faust to see if he agreed with Willie's contention. Should they have and if he agreed with Willie, would that have trumped what the official score book stated?

Congrats to the Cruasders on a very hard-fought season. Winning record, district champs and the pride in knowing you played your best and left it all on the court.

 

Kudos and good luck to Highlands the rest of the way. The game with Boone should be fun to watch.

 

Quick question for anyone who can answer: How many of those Highlands kids play football as well?

The only one that gets playing time is Tyler Grubbs. The other footballers are Kyle Welz and Tyler Seidl who each played JV most of the year. They have two soccer players (Jason Lewis and Alex Dean) with the remainder of the roster being basketball players only.

First time seeing Highlands this year and came away very impressed with Kowolonek, Grubbs, and Lother. They have a good inside game with Grubbs and can make the outside shot with Kowolonek and Lother. Lother does a very good job of handling the ball.

 

After seeing Boone and Highlands tonight....IMO: Highlands beats Boone on Sunday.

Talking at halftime, we were wondering if St. Henry might try and pack in a zone to try and hinder Grubbs.

Some notes from the game:

 

1.St. Henry should hold there heads up. It was a long difficult season. But you can always look back and say you are the new 34th District Champs. Good Luck to all 8 seniors, it was fun watching you guys over the years.

2. Grubbs played very well. His size and touch could take the Birds a long way. Also it was impressive to see when the Crusaders put him on the line, he made those free throws too.

3. Highlands is going to be a very very tough team next year. Scary to think they have ZERO seniors.

4. I sat in the Boone section for the 1st game and the St. Henry section for the 2nd game. I heard a lot of complaining about the refs, especially in the first game. But then again I seemed to stick my self with fans that didn't have a clue. WAS IT ME OR WERE THEY ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD LAST NIGHT?

5. Was it too far of a drive for the Highlands student body?

6. I really enjoy watching Mr. Lowther play the game. He really gives 110% and handles the ball as well as anyone I've seen in the pat 5 years. Also he has a decent shot that teams have to worry about.

7. Joey Swikert has been fun to watch over the past few years. He transferred to St. Henry after leaving New Orleans. He started on JV but proved quickly that his speed, defense, and work ethic make him one of the best defenders the CRU has had in some time.

8. I wish we could have watch Scott Volz play for 4 years. He really is a talented player. Good luck with baseball Scottie.

9. Its really fun to watch the two best coaches in the 9th region go at it. They work the officials with class and coach their teams very well. Willie really knows how to teach man to man defense.

10. From my last point, HIGHLANDS plays some of the best Man to Man defense I've seen all year. They play up on you, they cut off the lanes to the basket, they take charges, they keep there hands on you (but not illegally like most fans think). It won't be there offense that takes them far the next two years, its going to be the way they play on the defensive end.

 

 

Really nice post and right on about the men in stripes last night. My only complaint/concern is the walking calls or lack of such calls in all the game so far. The young lady (forget now what game she did) but she was really, very, very good last night and when one of the players gave her a look she gave it right back at him, and he knew he wasn't to do it again. Perfect example of sometimes a look is better than words.

 

Congrats to the men/lady in stripes, you all did a great job last night.

 

BTW was sitting next to two gentlemen who were from "New Jersey" in town for business, who when they heard of the tournament thought it was the best entertain they could find in town on a Wednesday night. One of the men has a son who play HS BB in NJ and thinks our Sweet Sixteen format and love of the game of basketball in the Commonwealth is really outstanding. They thought the BOKC was beautiful, and the brand of BB was outstanding...... Their only disappointment was in not getting to see Holmes play, as one of the men had read about Holmes back home in NJ, being very, very good.

I asked the same thing after the game. But it was almost like St. Henry got down too far too quick to get into that zone.

At $8 bucks a pop, the travel out to HH and on a school night, maybe some thought it was too much. These are students, not working adults, so they do what they can. Boone and Beechwood had a decent crowd behind their bench and supported them well. Maybe you can help out by purchasing 100+ tickets and donate them to the schools that lack the student support you're looking for. The student crowds may increase as we get closer to the finals.

 

 

8 dollars for two games isn't a big deal and for 3 hours of basketball it comes to about $2.65 an hour. There have been numerous post about the cost to the kids and what a financial burden it is on them. I see hundreds of kids on the weekends at the movies paying more than 8 dollars for tickets and snacks. Everyone of them has a cell phone obviously with unlimited text! I think it is a joke to pin the lack of student support on money. Heck, go through the local drive through and your paying 5 to 6 bucks now for food.

The school night excuse doesn't hold water either simply because kids these days are so busy they are out every school night. The game was over by about 9:00, I really don't think that is too late! :thumb:

I guess we'll call it a matter of priorities. I don't think it's over priced at all. I never said it was a financial burden on them, but I don't know, so lighten up. Maybe the kids you see on the weekends aren't interested in sports. Does it really matter? Again, for those that want more fan support, they should stop griping and donate tickets. I guess we'll call it a matter of priorities. I don't think it's over priced at all. I never said it was a financial burden on them, but I don't know, so lighten up. Some kids just don't have an interest in watching basketball being played and that goes for kids that play it. My son is a perfect example, he loves to play the game but he doesn't like to watch it. :idunno: It is beyond me but you will never catch him saddled in front of the tube on a Saturday afternoon watching college basketball or on Sunday watching NBA. I just dont get it but I accept it.

 

In the grand scheme I think the schools should really try to promote the spirit for the kids to attend and try to offer some sort of incentive. I liked what the Dixie Principal did and it seemed to work out great for Dixie.

I was told by a very credible source that if there was a wrong foul called on a wrong player, then the foul shot shouldn't have counted no matter what. Wrong player...Period!!!!! However, whoever the original player involved was should have reshot the freethrows before the start of play. According to my source, there is 5 correctable errors in the game of Basketball and this play falls into the category. My source being in the Ky High School officials hall of fame should be a good enough credible source. Take it for what it's worth...
