March 10, 200917 yr If he's 100% why is he not playing? Is it a conditioning issue? Dusty said he thinks Gonzalez's defense will come around much earlier than his bat due to the layoff. Also factor in that this is the longest ST ever, I belive they play 36 games, so he still has almost 4 weeks to get back into shape.

I felt better running the last couple of days.” Gonzalez had not played in the field since September of 2007. He missed all of last season with micro-fracture in his left knee. He had been used as a designated hitter in four games before Tuesday. He was involved in a half dozen plays. The best of them came in the fourth when he back-handed a sharp grounder on the short hop and started a 6-4-3 double play.
March 11, 200917 yr Big help if he stays healthy. I agree it will be a long year at SS with Keppy and Hairston. I think it'll be a long year with Gonzalez too. He's better defensively, but he hasn't played in what, 2 years? I kinda agree with ColonelCrazy here. How is Gonzo now? I mean the last year he played, he was not as good defensively as he use to be. Now after two years off, I doubt it would get back to what it use to be, and maybe even worst than the last time he played. Then the last time he played it was basically a career year hitting for him, so don't expect that from him again. So I really not sure why people see him as a big help if he is healthy, two years off from baseball is hard to come back from. I think he will help some, but I dont think he should be the every day shortstop.

March 14, 200917 yr Owings is dealin right now. Probably can lock up the 5th starter role tonight. IMO.
March 15, 200917 yr Author I was able to go to 2 spring training this week. I think the battle for the 5th starter has been awesome between Owings & Bailey.
