March 19, 200917 yr Author Eww Eww is right, but things like that happen. Owings has had a great spring, and I think he's earned hiimself the #5 spot in the rotation. It is also good to see him hit a home run. I wish he would have gotten some more AB's this spring.

March 20, 200917 yr John Fay... KEPPINGER ON BLOCK? Had a scout tell me that one of his bosses asked for his opinion on Jeff Keppinger. That could mean nothing. Or it could mean the Reds are shopping Keppinger. Keppinger is out of options. Adam Rosales has outhit Keppinger .273/..346/.545 to .182/.206/.182 this spring. Rosales could fill Keppinger's role. Rosales has more speed and power. Harang dismissed any notion that he is hurting. “Not at all,” he said. “It’s spring training. I’m working on things. You’ve got to fine tune all your pitches. I’m going to keeping throwing a pitch no matter the results.” Harang and Bronson Arroyo have gotten hit around a bit during spring, causing a bit of alarm in Redsland. Harang’s 7.24 ERA and Arroyo’s 6.00 look bad, especially when compared Johnny Cueto (1.29 ERA) and Edinson Volquez (0.00) Aaron Harang is Dick Pole’s No. 1 exhibit in the argument that spring training numbers don't matter. The numbers support Pole. Two years ago, Harang went 2-3 with a 6.6.6 ERA in spring and followed it by going 16-6 with a 3.73 ERA. Last year, he went 2-1 with 2.86 in spring and followed it by going 6-17 with a 4.78 ERA.

I wouldn't mind trading Keppy. I thought he had a lot of potential, but he fell off at the end of the year last year...

He walked five and struck out three. 82 pitches, 44 strikes. “I didn’t feel like I had my stuff,” he said. “It was a grind. It could have easily been worse. I know I’ll have games in the season when I don’t have my best stuff. So it was good to get out of it with one run.” Daniel Ray Herrera followed with a 1-2-3 innings. Two strikeouts. That's 19 of 20 retired. He's got to be on team, deosn't he?
March 27, 200917 yr Cueto's best outing of the spring: 6 innings, 2 hits, no walks, five strikeouts. He faced the minimum 18 hits because of two double plays. He threw 69 pitches, 48 strikeouts. For the spring, Cueto has gone 18 innings and allowed three runs no 12 hits. He's walked two and struck out 11.
March 28, 200917 yr Me thinks EV is a stud... Edinson Volquez had a rough time of it -- four hits, four walks in five innings -- but he kept the Rays to one run. It's only run he's given up in 19 spring training innings.
