This Year's Cinderellas?

Featured Replies

Who will be the potential Cinderellas to make it to the Sweet 16 and which of them might do some damage?

8th North Oldham The Mustangs have struggled all year with injuries and illness, but seem to be getting close to 100% this week.

2nd - Christian County; Tough, physical, play hard, and they've been there before. Highly rated, but not generally thought of as a contender. Would give them much more of a shot if they had a better draw. *(Sat in front of their coaching staff at the Sweet 16 last year, they seemed to be a class act.)

4th - Warren Central; See Christian County.

5th - Adair County/Bardstown; experienced teams with solid talent, each have split trips to Rupp over the past two years, both are tournament tested and have a nice draw.

9th - Boone County; Have been to the state tourney since 1998 and haven't seen them there yet, but they have already crashed some of Holmes' party.

9th - Highlands; Usually talented, stocked with bulky, tough athletes from football, and could frustrate teams by grinding it out.

9th - Covington Catholic; Have been there before and have a solid staff that knows the ropes. They're being overlooked quite a bit in 9th Region discussions because of a rough start, but I wouldn't want to play them.

11th - Henry Clay; Wouldn't wanna play the Devils and Prince Stewart in a one-and-done. They play hard, team-oriented ball; the sophomore they have in the post (#34) has developed pretty well over the year too. Could see them spoiling someone's party if they're overlooked.

11th - Tates Creek; If Fucci can get healthy, the Fucci/Barkesdale combo could pull an upset. Like Henry Clay, I can't really see them getting to Rupp, but they could spoil someone's plans in a hurry. Also, Breeden seems like a good tournament coach (two straight trips with Owensboro), I'm sure he's got plenty left in his bag of tricks. They've already played Scott County close this year.

14th - Hazard/Perry Central/ Knott Central; have some talent and a good draw. Would only have to play one game over their heads to make it to Saturday night. You know how the crowd loves mountain teams as well, so plenty of the neutral fans will probably be won over to their side.

10th Scott High.

They have good size inside and some great guards. They have one of the best point guards in NKY in Kellen Smith and he is only a Soph!

They have a solid chance of winning the 10th but the favorites are still GRC and Mason.

JokersWild???? Are you kidding? CovCath has the worst team possibly in the history of the school this year. They aren't even a top 10 team in the 9th. They aren't being overlooked at all, they aren't even being looked at. They will have a very hard time winning tonight against Beechwood to just make it out of the district.

I can give you Highlands and Boone. Boone quite possibly is the type of team that could give some squads in the Sweet 16 some problems. They are sneaky good. They have good guards, size, athleticism, and shooters. Good defenders. But its going to be tough task for them also to get through a tough district and a competitive regional with Holmes favored.

You've struggled with injuries all season? Take a gander at Manual.

No one said Manual didn't struggle with injuries.:idunno:

In the 7th, the winner of the Trinity -Seneca 1st round district game could be a darkhorse.

Also, Manual if they have all their players healthy.

It still looks like one of the big 3 (Jtown, Eastern, Ballard) will be the champion with the edge to Jtown or Eastern because, barring upsets, Ballard will have to play both to get out!

Scott High is not a team I would want to draw in the first round of the Sweet 16.

I agree with Scott in the 10th. It would be amazing to see Holmes vs. Scott in the Sweet 16 Semifinal.

Actually, my comments were geared toward a continuation of the Colonel's previous posts and threads regarding the subject.

Franklin County from the 11th, Shelby Valley and Corbin

It doesn't matter. CovCath wins any injury contest. :D
