February 17, 200917 yr I would have the same amount of surprise as I would have if O.J. Simpson ended up in prison..oh wait.
February 17, 200917 yr I think I'd still be surprised, if for no other reason that we've never heard of one person that has claimed or even insinuated that Griffey used. Keep in mind that you don't illegally use steroids without someone else knowing about it - either a doctor that is illegally prescribing them for you, a friend that is giving them to you, a friend/trainer that is helping inject you, a company like BALCO from whom you are buying, etc.. Literally, unless you happen to have your own steroid manufacturing facility, SOMEONE else knows you use. And in today's tell-all era, it seems that someone, somewhere, at some point in time would have pointed a finger at Griffey. And unless I've missed something, I haven't heard that. So, yes, it would surprise me greatly if he was determined to have used. And, for the record, I hate Griffey. :madman:
February 17, 200917 yr I'm not an expert on the subject, but is added body mass a side effect of every steroid? It's likely that different people's bodies respond differently to a steroid, just as they do to various medications. I'm not an expert either, but I would guess that if he were doing them he would have grown in other areas than his gut and rear end. He may have to work out a lot to grow the way the others did, but why else would he take them unless he was working out hard? I think that he thought the game would always be as easy for him as it was at the age of 20 and if he would have taken roids it would have been. Another point his numbers dipped at about the same age as most of the older generation players who weren't using roids. Unlike the rest of the guys who got better as they got to the point where they should have been going down. Or like Boone and Brady Anderson who had years that they quite simple were never capable of.
February 17, 200917 yr Ok, i'll admit it. I'd be shocked, I just don't see the mass on him that these other guys had. +1, I'd be floored. He aged pretty much how people "used" to age before performance enhancers. Peak seasons 26-29, then dropped off. He never bulked up, or swelled up, kept his fluidity. Hammy's go on guys that played with reckless abandon, and years on turf. He's have stayed healthier if the Reds had sense to move him to RF or 1b a long time ago.
February 17, 200917 yr I can't speak for his time in Seattle, but once he got to Cincy, his body filled out almost exactly like his dad's did w/ the Braves and Reds late in his career. Also, he was quoted in saying, "Does a cheetah stretch before it hunts?" That makes me think that his lack of flexibility may have been the leading factor in his hamstring injury. Nothing shocks me now, but I would think that had he done 'roids while in Seattle, he would have been outed by now.
February 17, 200917 yr I would be very shocked. There would have been mention of him now by somebody.

Lack of flexibility or lack of making an effort to keep himself flexible and in shape? :idunno:
February 18, 200917 yr Someone of his calibar and this era, you'd think something would have been released about it had he ever done steroids already.
February 18, 200917 yr I'd be willing to bet that Jay Buhner used the juice. He was a 20-25 Hr guy then in '95, '96 and '97 he goes for 40+, then just faded away.

And he's playing in New York now, to boot.
February 18, 200917 yr I would be surprised on any use past his first few years in the league. He never picked up the mass and I just don't see it. I could be wrong, but what does Jose have to say about it? He seemed to have everyone else pegged dead to rights, but don't remember any mention of Jr.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. Plus A-Rod mentioned something about Seattle... Alex Rodriguez just got outed, five-plus years after he tested positive, and he may be the finest player of our generation. And he's playing in New York now, to boot. I think Griffey is clean, but at this point nothing would really surprise me. I would be very disappointed though, as I've always thought that Griffey was the best "pure" player around. This thread really just displays the need for the other 103 names to be outed, too. As many people & players have said, everybody is now guilty by association. It's a shame, but it's the truth. Those honest guys who didn't cheat should be recognized and all ambiguities should be cleared.
