Where on Earth was Shawn Grimm's coaches, teachers, and school administrators? Did NOBODY inform the young man about his options in terms of grants, loans, and federal financial assistance?

 

I was thinking the same thing..Here is a kid that wants to better his life and there is nobody in Paintsville to step up and help this kid out...What a tragedy if this kid gets left behind...Very sad.....:cry:

At least they are trying to help the area with this story.

I will give the Pikeville College coaches and administrators the benefit of a doubt and assume that they got in too late on Grimm to get him all the financial aid available. However, I surely would like them to visit him now and get the paper work in for a Pell Grant for next season. Surely this kid qualifies for every grant available.

So is this Grimm kid still in High School? Are they going to re-air this later tonight?

He graduated in '08.

I had heard stories about young Mr. Grimm, but I really had no idea just how bad this young man had it. I pray that he gets the help he needs to get him through college, and a better life, and future for him. He is shown how tough he is, and I know given the chance he can succeed. The little girl named Erica whose mom has let her down time after time after time just breaks my heart. What a beautiful young lady she is, and how incredibly wise and loving she seems. I pray that she could some how get adopted by a family that would show her the love she so richly deserves before she falls prey to the lifestyle she has grown up in so far in her young life. I'd adopt her in a heart beat.

They had to add the incest story tag in for the last moments. Throw us a bone with some happy/forward moving stuff, Diane. I liked the show, for the most part, but think they took their chances to show some stereotypes, also.

I felt for Grimm and actually think something positive comes out of this for him. And I hope that little girl gets about 20 pairs of Hanna Montana boots!

I didnt get to watch the live episode but my mother told me a little about it and it sounded as if ABC was sincere with what they were airing and not just the typical press coverage this region recieves. Maybe someone a little closer to the Grimm kid can go more in depth but I would guess he was a little bit better taking care of than what was showed on the segment I seen online. I know his coach and know for a fact Jim Matney would be there for a kid who played for him in that type of situation, especially his star.

It's inspiring to see the good citiznes honestly wanting to help others out. I was not happy with the incest part either. That that was garbage. I will say this. I grew up in Eastern KY have been away and am back right now. I've been to some of the nicest places in the USA and have met people from all walks of life. When you talk to the good folks in Eastern KY that have worked hard + done things the right way, you will be hard pressed to find a better group of people in this world! I think the way they showed the war casualties per capita was a great tribute to the loyalty the good people have! Heck even some of the worst people around would give you the shirt off their back. My wife is from the city and is amazed how much neighbors help each other out around here.

This was sad and very sobering, it makes you thankful for everything you have in your life.

Let's not get to ga-ga over this kid,didn't he also say he read where he needed to drink a beer a day to flush his kidneys, I mean come on. Also, 5'7 inch running backs aren't gonna make it at too many colleges no matter where they go to high school, need a back up plan.

There must be something about that part of Kentucky that people fall in love with, will give you two examples. Former Mason County basketball coaches Kelly Wells and Mark Starns. Wells left coaching in Hawaii to coach at Pikeville College and Starns(believe he coached or is from New York) left Mason County to coach at Johnson Central. I mean alot of people would consider Mason County a different world from Eastern Kentucky, can only imagine Hawaii and New York.
