Personally, I would probably side with Jackson ... I've loved his game since the Rose Hill days.

Good point. But I would imagine that since he's getting looks from schools like Florida, Louisville, WVU, Xavier, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, etc.. He has the most potential out of anyone on SC's team.

I agree. IMO Guyn has the most potential on that SC team. He is in the same boat as Pittman of Holmes. Scores 20+ one night and the next he scores single digits. One thing I can say about both players though, is both show up in big games which is the true testament of a great player.

Ferguson isn't better R. Johnson....period. There's a reason he's a high major recruit.

 

Ferguson on the first team, as westsider said, depends on how many they select. If they select 10, I can see him on the first team.

 

I could see Ferguson on there ahead of Rico, because he is a senior and he has also scored over 3,000 pts in his high school career. Now whether he is better than Rico, I do not think so, but he deserves a high award regardless.

I agree, he may be the best of the lot.

 

It must be that he doesn't get into the paper enough, but if you have seen him, you can't exclude him, he can play. If they make it to the sweet sixteen it will be on his shoulders.

Don't think I'm bashing the kid. I'll be the first to tell you that he is my favorite player on the EC team and I've always been most impressed with him, as his range is unlimited.

 

I just don't see him as one of the top 5 players in the state.

 

IMO, if I were selecting a team, I'd go with the following 5:

 

Sanford

R. Johnson

Hood

Pittman

Phares

 

That team could come compete against small-mid major colleges and be successful.

 

So could Ferguson! I have saw him in open gym compete and do very well

with a mid-major team! He had 14 of their 30 points and the team he was on won! In second game he had 12 of their 26 and won that game also He has played against all levels of comp and has always put up good numbers!! He is a natural scorer whatever the level of comp!! He does have slumps though like everyone else and some may have saw him when he was in one, but he always has had good overall averages!! He played for Derek Smith

last summer and averaged 19ppg and they were something like 30-13 while he was with them!!!!!!!!!!

Just because a player was honorable mention as a soph and 2nd team as a junior, doesn't mean they should automatically be 1st team as a senior.

 

I hate to bring this up, but would he still have the same numbers and that many wins playing against better competition? Not trying to bash him, as I really like him, but it's a legit argument and question.

I agree that he should be mentioned as an all state caliber player...I just don't think he's first team caliber. A lot of his recognition has to do with him playing in a weak 16th region that allows him to put up the numbers he has.

The thing with Ferguson though is he often takes a lot of shots to get his points.

Jackson may very well be more valuable but Ge is hands down the better scorer of the two and honestly without him SC would have lost to Holmes by probably 20+ as both Euton and Jackson struggled against kids who were just as big and for Jackson, just as athletic.

Jacob Jenkins, barring injury, would have won Mr. Basketball this season. There's no doubt in my mind that had he been healthy was the state's top player. There's still time left for this young man to state his case.
