I do not mind air ball etc.. but when fans start screaming bad things at some of the players. Personal or otherwise that needs to stop.

I don't think it is a big deal. If you don't want them to yell "air ball" at you, then don't shoot air balls. Its that simple, if you don't want a speeding ticket then don't speed, I can do this all day. Lol.

 

I was at a game this year however that every time Elijah Pittman touched the ball the opposing student yelled out "soulja boy tell'em, YOULLLL." For those of you not into hip hop music, Soulja Boy is a rapper and that is how nearly everyone of his songs start off. It is quite annoying and it was annoying that night (although I giggled the first couple of times they did it), but that was a case of a student section attacking a trait and his look, because Eli does resemble him a little bit. However it had nothing to do with making or missing a shot or anything that the kid could control, just his physical appearance. Is making fun of a persons physical traits going too far?

The school adminstration has the right to restrict their student section's behavior if they deem that it reflects poorly on their school. I wish more schools would do this. I attend some games where the student sections spends 99% of the time downing the other team and almost no energy put into to supporting their own team. These are not fans...they are hecklers.

I have no problem with student sections yelling "air ball" (or anything else that isn't over the line). In fact, I really like it! I don't like it when adults do the same thing though. I have often seen one student section get in a "yelling" contest with the adults from the opposition. That just seems odd to me.

 

Kids will be kids..... Adults will be IDK

I just don't like when student sections "over cheer" the opponents girl cheerleaders. I think it's classless. Other than that...have at it!

 

You've got to be kidding me ... what about the reading of the newspapers while the pponants cheerleaders are on the floor for a timeout.

I have seen some fairly obnoxious behavior in HS fans or what I considered to be over the line. However, yelling "air ball" isn't one of them. That's a pretty common and benign chant. Sounds like some fans just having fun to me.

Been going on for years!!!!!!!! People are to worried about what everyone else is doing and they ought to be watching the game!!!!!!!!!! For centuries people have been making fun of each other, picking on the quite/weak, laughing at people when they fall, heckling them at ballgames, beating them by 50, etc. etc. I survived all these HUMAN traits and it didnt hurt me any!!!!!!!!! If you cant stand to lose....by whatever margin large or small

don't play the game because at some point you will!! The game of real life is not fair and never will be!! Why try to shelter kids and let them think it is!! Can't stand the heat...get out the kitchen!!!!!!!!!!:taz::taz::taz:

 

In principle, I agree with most of the posters - "Air ball" does not cross the line. I am a little concerned, though, that all those years of psychological torment might lead to an unhealthy use of the EXCLAMATION POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can't handle air ball, life is probably going to be tough in general.

I don't have a problem with it, some of the best times that I have had at ball games is watching the cheering sections, and they were not singing cum ba ya to the opposing team.

That's why they call it COMPETITION!!!!!!!!!

I think its good so long that it doesn't get hurtful. One student section would chant to current players while they were shooting freethrows that their brother, by name, "was better", some student sections do their homework.

What about if a coaches son is in the game and the crowd starts chanting "daddy's boy"?

I don't mind most of what I hear from student sections so long as it is not profane, racial, sexual etc.. I really hate to hear adults yell air ball, stomp while someone is shooting foul shots, and that kind of stuff. Recently I saw a 50ish man yell air ball when a 14 year old girl shot an air ball. He laughed like he was the first one to ever come up with it. Real classy.:ohbrother:

How about when a BGP member misses the mark with a post?
