I try not to eat at McDonald's that often, but sometimes it's just too easy.

 

Typically, I will order 2 double cheeseburgers and a large sweet tea.

 

There's a McDonald's right across the street from where I work in Berea and I went in and discovered that my usual double cheeseburger had disappeared from the Dollar Menu. I looked harder and found that it was moved to another side of the menu and the price was no longer $1, but $1.25.

 

However, the "McDouble" had taken it's place on the dollar menu. I asked the cashier what a McDouble was and he said, "It's a double cheeseburger."

 

I replied, "Why is it different from the regular double cheeseburger?"

 

He said, "Well, the McDouble only has one slice of cheese, but the double cheeseburger has two slices."

 

"That's the only difference?"

 

"Yes."

 

"So a slice of cheese is worth 25 cents?"

 

"Yeah, I guess so."

 

Anyways, I ordered two McDouble's and a large sweet tea. Didn't really notice much of a difference and seems like a ploy to get regular double cheeseburger orderers to pay 25 cents more when they order it out of habit.

 

This is not all that surprising to me. When I was in Columbus, OH one weekend, we stopped at McDonald's and I saw that the majority of the items on their Dollar Menu were $1.39.

 

Has anyone else seen Dollar Menu prices go up at your local Mickey D's?

By that logic, a hamburger should be 75 cents or less (no cheese and one less burger).

 

The McDouble has taken the place of the double cheeseburger in the McDonald's that I've been in the last couple of weeks or so on the dollar menu. I was in the Jeffersontown McDonalds late Sunday morning and asked for two doubles, a small fries and a small diet (gotta keep that svelte figure).

 

First, the guy asked if that was McDoubles or double cheeseburgers. I already knew the difference and specified McDoubles. He then asked if I wanted a large soda for the same price (a dollar) as the small. I was happy to oblige.

Looks like I went on a diet at the right time.

McDonalds speculated this move for months in 2008 and finally pulled the trigger. Wendys nuggets went up a quarter as well. Even my vending machines at work, everything is a buck from a Kit Kat to a bag of chips. They all point to the increased fuel cost for the hike from what I heard.

With the economy slumping, McDonald's has seen an increase in business. They are just trying to take advantage of consumers, just like the speculators that caused record prices for a barrel of oil. To hold prices as long as they have, then to raise prices now and blame it on increased fuel costs when those have dropped dramatically is a slap in the face to their customers. They're just trying to see how high they can drive their prices and still maintain market share.

Not sure of the cost of the burgers here. However, I like to add cheese to my favorite breakfast sandwich and they charge 30 cents. :-(

The double cheeseburgers are 1.19 around me. And when Wendy's nuggets were 99 cents I was eating there 2 to 3 times a week. I would just get 15 nuggets, a Jr Bacon cheeseburger, a fry, and a water and spend 5.25 everytime. Now it's too much I just head to McDonalds or Taco Bell.

Yes, I had always wondered the difference between the the double cheeseburger and the Mcdouble, wow, 25 cents for a piece of cheese? I usually go with the crispy barbecue snack wraps anyway every time I hit up McDonalds now, they are pretty good.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read the initial post of this thread lol.

I usually only eat McDonalds when I'm in Kuwait....they don't have a dollar menue.

Seems a little over the top.

 

I've got a thousand choices for burgers yet my car only runs on gasoline.

 

This is nothing more than "I think we can get more for the double." What's the problem with that?

Hubby was just telling me this story yesterday. He could actually tell a difference with the missing piece of cheese. I think I would to. I love my cheese.
