No. He was home-schooled until he started at Rose Hill. I don't recall which grade he started going to school, but his mother didn't start his education until he was 6, rather than 5. He has progressed thru each grade since, without any hold backs. And I can assure you, he wasn't started late for sports.

Mike Terry is the real deal. He is blessed with size, but works hard to show that he isn't just a big man. He has skills.

The timeout Cooksey called with just a little over a second left lost this game. Ashland was out of t/o's. They couldn't stop the clock. He did it for them and gave them a chance to set up a play. If Ashland would have had to make the inbounds play on the fly, I believe this game would have had a different ending.

The Ashland program isn't being slammed. The bias of a particular official for Ashland is. And, although I didn't witness it, if what was said about the Ashland coaching staff and game officials hugging after the game, then yes, that creates a huge cloud over not only this win, but the integrity of the program. As stated earlier, nothing derogatory is being said about the kids. The adults involved, now that is another story.

His "factual quotes are tiresome" because they are counter to what you wish to believe. The Ashland kids played hard. No one is saying otherwise. But if you are so blinded by the glorious victory that you either can't or refuse to admit the officiating played a huge role in the win, then just kick back and enjoy the win. And make sure the Tomcat players concentrate on free throws at practice. Kouns may be calling your next game, also.

I understand what you are saying, but no team should have to do something in order to win "in spite of the refs." The best refs are the ones that don't get mentioned in threads like this, not the clown crew that was on the floor tonight. I was wondering who was in the small car that looked like it was full of stripes I saw pulling in before the game. Now I know.

The key has already been stated. It was the individuals in striped shirts. I hope these grown men feel good about messing over a good bunch of kids.

I brought up one instance. As I stated in the post, all 4 local papers I read on a regular basis have a lot to be desired. I don't know who you are or your profession, but it seems like I stepped on some toes.

For years, I have read The Herald Dispatch, Daily Independent, Ironton Tribune, and Portsmouth Daily Times on a regular basis. All of these papers have had a huge decline in the quality of local news and sports they report. The articles by local writers are full of spelling and gramatical errors and lack any real substance. When they do report on something, it is generally full of half-truths and "facts" that haven't been verified. They rely more and more on Associated Press stories to fill their pages. I remember a few years back when one of the Rose Hill girls reached the 2,000 point milestone, the Daily Independent didn't even mention it. There are very few true journalists left in this world. I wonder where the next Ernie Salvatore will come from.

It seemed to me that only Ashland was allowed to play aggressive defense. I haven't seen any stats, but I would like to know the # of fouls called on both teams. Other than that, kudos to the Ashland kids for playing a complete game and getting a quality win.

Mike Terry's defense on Metz in the last 5 minutes or so was the difference. I think the only points he got after Terry was put on him were from the free throw line. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Or just call my wife, she'll do it for you.

I don't have any stats, but Mike Terry had to have 30 points. He turned it up big time in the 2nd half.

Demling needs to get out more. I would put Gregg or Terry from Rose Hill against several of these boys. I'm sure they are all good players, but this list is not indicitive of the talent in the complete state.

I voted yes. If they play for the district they live in, I don't have a problem with it. There are a lot of different reasons to homeschool your kids. I think religious views top the list. The whole creation vs evolution debate could make you keep your kids home. Private/Christian schools may not be available where you live, or maybe not in the budget. Poorly performing schools may be why you choose to home school your kids. My wife works for a public school. My kids attend and play sports at the same school district. That's our choice. But if I we decided to home school our children, my tax dollars would still be supporting the school district, and I would expect to get something back for my tax dollars by way of athletics.

You brought it up, then say there is no need to revisit it. Either back up your statements with facts, not opinions, or back-peddle your way out of it. You don't get a free pass at a cheap shot by saying it's been talked about too much.
