Still not buying it. What is unsound about it?

When you sell out to stop the run you look great against inferior teams. This comes back to haunt you when talent level matches up. Games I can think of in the past with Rock would be Bell,Knox,Corbin,Danville,Lex Cath to name a few. Yes these are good teams year in and year out. However I have seen these teams like these play good defensively when their talent levels may not have been as good as other years. It sounds like you may be close to the program. I still would not take anything from Larkey. He is a great coach. I think he is a great offensive coach and does a great job utilizing his talent on that side of the ball. I just do not like the def. philosophy. H.C. will still be really good because of their talent level. I hear they have some pretty good skill.

Sounds like a lot of experts on here or bleacher coaches. I will say just one thing. If you are not out there with the kids everyday, then you do not know enough to be talking on who can do what and what the team needs to be doing.

The boys seem to have really enjoyed this Spring practice. I talked to some mommy's who say their boys have "hit the hay" earlier than usual since Spring practice started. The coaches must have been working them hard! The boys seem really excited about the upcoming season. I was hoping that we'd get to go see the intrasquad scrimmage Thursday, but the weather is looking nasty.

I have heard they look pretty good on the O-line this spring.

You basicly have 1 person away from the LOS the safety and that is it, any playaction and CB's are gone. If the MLB misses the tackle it is by by b/c the safety can't be asked to play in that much space. That to me is very unsound. As said if you have superior talent it really don't matter, in this case if your D-line gets blocked. It is very similar to M'bor's unsound defense. You HC people got to witness that first hand last year.

It doesn't bother me that other team's fan base want to "question" or "downgrade" our coaches choice of defense, but the Black Bear fans need to stand behind it and encourage the kids who are playing. The kids have confidence in it and are really learning their assignments. It's the defense that they are playing. Every defense has weaknesses. EVERY defense has weaknesses.

Talked to my Nephew today ( James Phillips ), Told me he was up to 262 in weight now. Which Is good considering the fact, It's not fat, I have challenged him, Not on the field, But off, Grades, Weight lifting, Seems to be working, I wish James the best...

 

Told me they have tried him at FB a little, Man, A 6'3/6'4 262 lb FB, Wow...I would hate to be a FS metting him head on

My husband watched some spring practices where they had James at fullback and said he did great at FB.

Also, Rockcastle's defense was pretty sound against Bell, before dudley learned a quarterback can be used to throw the ball instead of being that pesky middle man between the football and the HB:ohbrother:. Not to downgrade any HC players, I personally know some of them, like them, but you cant really beleive this HC defense is even on par with many of the past Rock defenses in just two years in the system can you? Who knows they may do good, they may be one of the toughest defenses in the mountains, but when teams have a strong running game, and average to strong passing game and begin utilizing the pass on them, they're in for a long night, very long night regardless of the talent they have.

There's no comments comparing Rockcastle's vs Harlan County's defense. We appreciate all the "concern" by the Bell faithful about the Black Bear's defense. :thumb:

I wished the weather would have cooperated so we could have had the Spring scimmage. I was looking forward to seeing Phillip's at the FB spot. He would be a handful to deal with.

I don't think Mama Bear was talking about this year, I think she meant some of the battles in the past between Coach Larkey's Defense and Bell. I do have to agree with her about backing our Black Bears! That is one of my pet peeves. I have said it hundreds of times that fans should support their team and expect their team to win every game they play.
