Bell's didn't have very many weaknesses this year:sssh:. Also, Rockcastle's defense was pretty sound against Bell, before dudley learned a quarterback can be used to throw the ball instead of being that pesky middle man between the football and the HB:ohbrother:. Not to downgrade any HC players, I personally know some of them, like them, but you cant really beleive this HC defense is even on par with many of the past Rock defenses in just two years in the system can you? Who knows they may do good, they may be one of the toughest defenses in the mountains, but when teams have a strong running game, and average to strong passing game and begin utilizing the pass on them, they're in for a long night, very long night regardless of the talent they have.

 

I don't think Mama Bear was talking about this year, I think she meant some of the battles in the past between Coach Larkey's Defense and Bell. I do have to agree with her about backing our Black Bears! That is one of my pet peeves. I have said it hundreds of times that fans should support their team and expect their team to win every game they play.

It don't take much from either county to ruffle each others feathers, I can't wait for football period, but the Harlan County Bell County rivalry will be something special. I hope it can be rekindled at the middle school levels too!

How "sound" was this defense over the years when Rockcastle was playing Bell County?

 

It doesn't bother me that other team's fan base want to "question" or "downgrade" our coaches choice of defense, but the Black Bear fans need to stand behind it and encourage the kids who are playing. The kids have confidence in it and are really learning their assignments. It's the defense that they are playing. Every defense has weaknesses. EVERY defense has weaknesses.

Harlan County has 3 middle school football teams. Cumberland, Evarts, and New Harlan. It's my understanding that New Harlan will be playing Bell County this year. I've missed that match up the past two years. It's always an exciting game for the players and the fans.

One great thing about this game being scheduled at the high school level, no matter the difference in talent or traditions for either programs, it'll be a fight 'till the final whistle. I know for a fact theres some kids from Harlan County, some kids thats going to be Juniors and Seniors thats just waiting to be set loose on the field with something ro prove after some of the final Bell-New Harlan CVC games. I look for this to be a very emotional game for players and fans both. Add in the kind of atmosphere there always is up at log mountain at playoff time and the end of the season, going to be a great game and rivalry for the mountains.

It should be about 15 games between Hilton and Larkey. They didn't play in 2008 because of Larkey going to Harlan Co. Having Hilton and Larkey on the opposite sidelines again should help this rivalry.

We have a new district and that is what counts. I am not saying that the Bell game is not big but we should not get caught up into this game when we have very good teams to play in our district.

 

Now, I must say this, Harlan County had better improve on the defensive side of the ball or it will be a long season. Not saying that it is the scheme and defintely not the coaching but our kids where not that physical last year and did not tackle like they are capable of tackling. Harlan County teams have always been considered physical kids but last year was not but I am hoping the offseason and a year under their belt will help. Go Black Bears!

I think our team will be a lot more physical this year and a lot more confident in what they are doing after having a year under their belt. They'll definitely be a lot stronger. I hear they are wroking really hard right now. I believe us Black Bear fans will have plenty to cheer about this upcoming season. Can't wait!

Ramblings I've heard, HCHS will be a very good team this year. Some say they'll drop off from last year, Losing their best RB, And LB. Would like to see HCHS beat Bell Co
