Not sure about that statement because IMO he was the glue in a lot of ways. It was mentioned at the banquet that ha had never missed a practice or weightlifting day and he did nothing but come to practice and execute. He will be missed a great deal, and I'm not sure there is anyone that can fill his void this coming up year at FB and MLB.

It is the same scheme Rock uses and they have proven to be one of the best teams around. I was just defending Polson earlier and trying to find a way to say it. There were lots of mistakes made but he knew what to do and got into position to do it. No one ever said HC did not give up a lot of points. And there is much more to the d-line play than just knocking the o-lines' legs out. You may see that but there is more to the picture than that. No one lined up in the I and ran it on HC. It was all from the spread and no one was chopped against the spread and no one was left one on one. And anyone who does not know the value of Glen Roberts does not know football from the standpoint of what all he brought to the table. He was there EVERY day ready to go whether he was hurt, tired or whatever. He was one of the few senoirs who actually bought in to the defense and did his assignment each play. That defense, just as any defense, will not work if kids have their own agenda and don't play disciplined football. Glenn was the epitome of that. All HE cared about was winning, not what he looked like or his stats. No defense or offense works in any sport if the players don't do as coached. Give them another year to get people in place who only care about winning and can commit to being there and giving a daily effort and then talk bad about them.

And by the way, they were in the top 10 rushing defenses in 3A. Take away the Breathitt games (which I know you can't) but just for the heck of it they would have been even higher.

Roberts may not have cared about stats but he sure had some nice stats to show for his efforts. He led the team in tackles, I believe. I've seen Glenn once without pads and a helment on and I couldn't tell much of a difference. The kid's a rock! I really think we've got a strong core group of players out this year. Now that we have the first year behind us, the kids have a better understanding of the system. My hope is that within the team that they will push one another to be better and challenge each other to do whatever it takes to be successful. The coaches will find somebody to play the FB and MLB spots, but they'll be hardpressed to find somebody that will have the immediate success that Roberts had in those postions. They've got the Spring and Summer to develop those kids. We'll be ready.

Estill didn't run the I, but utilized a VERY ground oriented offense in the double wing and rushed for around 370-380 yards against the Bears.

Forgot about Estil. Most of that came first half though. Once HC made an adjustment they struggled to move the ball in the 2nd. They punted twice. Up that point they had only punted twice. Once in the first half of the HC game and once in the Fleming game.

I may be remembering the Estil game wrong. Maybe there were just two punts, anyway, what they did to HC was nothing compared to what Breathitt did to them twice. Those games were ugly. They still haven't stopped Fugate. I think he just now scored again.

Guess maybe I should quit watching football then, But I do know someone who could match the same Intensity as Roberts, And that's Cody Taylor, Kid will be a Star, And he could fill that FB spot just fine, As for LB, I dont know...

Estill County also only scored 3 touchdowns against the Bears, compared to their 7-8 average touchdown per game. I'd bet they had less than 100 yards in the 2nd half after the necessary adjustments.

That defense was successful at one time until teams figured it out. This is not a sound defense. What has Rock done lately?

8-4 last season with the loses coming to Bell 2 times- 4A state champ, Whitley 5A semifinals, and Knox who by all rights had Bell beaten who by the way won the 4 A title. All the while playing unsound defense. What do you find unsound about it?

I hate to drag this into this topic, its just to hard to pass up though. You say Knox had Bell beaten, I dont see it that way. They had a slight lead late in the game, and the better team prevailed. No one seems to remember Knox got the ball back with time on the clock, but the drives was stopped by a Bell INT, I dont see that as being nearly beaten I see it as the better team prevailing.

 

Onto this HC defense, I didnt get the chance to see them play but the scores of the games did make it look a little suspect. Cant wait to see the Hilton-Larkey rivalry renewed though:ylsuper:

Just trying to make a point that Knox was a strong team. I know NO one can say anything about Bell.

Also to add to the Rockcastle defense being unsound and figured out, in 07 they lost one game 15-0, 14-6, 12-2. I think those are the scores. Hardly giving up a ton of points.

With some of the talent they had they could have played any defense they wanted. Just like m-boro. When they have good talent their defense looks great. When they dont have the talent the defense looks horrible. If these teams played more sound defense they could still be pretty good with not as great of talent. Hope that did not confuse anybody.
