As I said, do you want a baseball/softball field or do you want to do it right?

It'll be done right. I'm sure of it! I'm obviously not an engineer or a contractor. It just made sense that the baseball/softball fields would be cheaper to build than a football stadium/track. Our kids need a place to call their own. Harlan County deserves the same quality facilities that the kids across the state have, and have had. I want to see it ALL completed and soon! I'm sure the same fine detail will be given to ALL the outside facilities as was given to our new school and gym. It's been about 40 years since we had anything "new" here.

What players on offense will surprise us this year. In your opinion.

 

The one's that are getting it done in the weightroom and who are going above and beyond during this offseason. I know of one who is doing road work before school and then lifting during the day at football. Thats is what we need from a few more. Maybe it will carry over to some others. Work in the offseason equals wins in the regular season!:thumb: If it were easy everybody would be good?

This so true, what seperates a great program from a good program is work ethic from the kids, if they just show up and put their time in, it dosen't get them where they need to be. When you see the same type of focus in the offseason as you do during the season you have turned the corner and are on the verge of something special.

I really like this schedule it is a good mix of teams and a huge test with the defending 4A state champs. An early prediction is anywhere from 8-2 to 6-4 depending on a number of factors. This 5A district is a good one with the upswing of Whitley and Letcher, Perry Co can be tough, Clay and North may end up bringing up the rear this year. So HC is in a good postition to have a good season in their first year in 5A.

Keeping to what I preach about supporting a team if you are a fan, I predict the Black Bears will be 10-0! But away from Uncle Rico world I believe 8-2 is very achievable. Powell Valley VA isn't a pushover by any means. I like this schedule a lot, I can see almost every game/team becoming a classic rivalry.

There isn't a team on the schedule that is more than an 1 1/2 away.

I am very excited about the schedule and the team Harlan County has in 09!

 

I don't think there is a pushover on our schedule and that is what it takes to win.

I am going to say more like 7-3 is what they will finish in 09.

Letcher will be a tough game as well as Southwestern in a bowl, this team could be as good as this years but with a tougher schedule the record may not be as good.

Looks like Whitley Co. will only be losing 8 seniors.

I could see them going anywhere from 5-5 to 9-1, but I don't know if it's a tougher schedule. Obviously, Bell is tougher than anyone they played last year and everyone is better than Grayson County, Va.

 

I think the Bears should be favored over Leslie, Lee, Perry Central, Clay and North Laurel, and probably Powell Valley, Va. (I heard they played Lee very close last year in a game or scrimmage). I think the Southwestern game could be about even at this point, especially since it's in Somerset. They are the definite underdogs to Bell County and will probably be rated slightly below Whitley and Letcher.

 

I think it's a great schedule for the fans. The longest trip is to Somerset, which is ironic when you consider all the "they'll have to travel to Lexington or Louisville to get games scare tactics." They also have some very good potential rivalry matchups with Bell, Leslie and Letcher.

I look for them to be better. Most people don't agree with me, but I believe they will be better but not more talented. We will more than likely have a sophomore QB and Shequille Clark replacing seniors Blanton and Gilliam. Plus we lose some on defense, but this years team will have the advantage of a years experience and a full off season with Larkey. I for one believe Clark will shine and along with some help from Dwight Burgan, Dylon Smith, Cody Taylor, and Marcus McMillian will help us not miss Gilliam as much! And we still have TJ Green.

 

The Defense and QB will be our biggest concerns. That's in my opinion. But I do think the Defense will come together!

They also have some very good potential rivalry matchups with Bell, Leslie and Letcher.

 

I'm not so sure about Leslie. They seem to be struggling right now and very very young. I feel pretty confident about that game. I don't think the Leslie game has the potential to be the intense rivalry that the other two mentioned will be. Not now anyhow. One thing about Leslie Co. is that they play a tough schedule. Perhaps this will pay off for them in next couple of years.

 

Southwestern lost 16 seniors. They had 13 juniors though.

Not sure what to expect from that game.
