ESPN.com ran a feature a few months ago called "Face of the Program," in which it listed one name that comes to mind most in association with a college football program. That got me to thinking about playing the same game when it comes to high school sports programs in Northern Kentucky.

 

While I could have limited this to just high school football or even spread it out among several different sports I decided to try and broaden it to include the one name most associated athletically with each school in Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties regardless of the sport. The "Face of the Program" in some cases will be a player and in some cases a coach. At some schools the choice is an absolute no-brainer and at some of the tradition-rich programs it is almost impossible to narrow the choice to one person....

Wasn't sure whether or not to put this in football or basketball, so I thought I'd just create a thread in both forums and have one "face of the program" for basketball; and one "face of the program" for football.

 

After reading through the article, who would everyone consider the "face of the program" that you support and why? Might be a good history lesson for some.

There could be many possibities for Highlands, but for me the first name that popped into my head was Homer Rice. I just have always felt he set the foundation that has made Highlands what it is today.

Homer is a good selection. The Enquirer has Dale as their selection:

 

"Mueller has won seven state titles; tied for second most in school history, and two runner up finishes in his 15 years as head coach."

I like when they compile lists like this. It show how rich in tradition the NKY area is. Not only are some of these name well known in Ky., but some names has a national meaning as well. As for the Birds, they could have a notable in each sport. I agree with his selection, but I'm glad he made the selection, I'd still been trying to decide!

 

I think the players race has three horses: Lorenzen, John Schlarman, and Marty Moore is a strong choice as well...

Although Dale Mueller will eventually become the face after he wins another handfull or more of State Championships.

Coach Mueller stats as a coach are very impressive and tough to beat!

Not Northern Kentucky but the face of Leslie County High School Football is obviously Tim Couch. One of the greatest athletes in H.S. sports history.

Mueller is a good choice for the current face of Highlands, but Homer is the man that really started it all. Without Homer's contributions, Mueller would not be near as successful as he has been in my opinion.

I liked the idea, but I would have rather seen coaches and players seperated.

Choosing a QB is an easy selection, but If we're talking about running backs as faces of a program, what about Justin Frisk or HHS?

For the Camels IMO it would be have to be Herschel Turner still to my knowledge the only Camel to play in the NFL.
