December 28, 200817 yr I am going to start exercising, and cut the sweets out. I can't give up coffee but I am willing to eat healthy. I am going to need some motivation b/c I am one to quickly give up when I see no progress.
December 28, 200817 yr I'm going to start eating breakfast, making sure I don't slack on my walks with the LuckyDog, even if it's bitterly cold. I'm going to make sure I eat lunch and eat a small dinner. My biggest downfall is not eating regularly. I rarely eat breakfast, often skip lunch, then eat a huge meal when I get home and then fall asleep. I've totally messed up my metabolism.

I really never eat breakfast, if lunch its small and then dinner I eat tons and snack until i go to bed. That is so bad I know. Are there ways to speed up your metabolism?

Are there ways to speed up your metabolism? Eating and excercising regularly. I won't ever be "skinny" and able to eat like a horse and not worry about gaining weight. But, when I concentrate on eating regularly (of course the right things), and excercising consistently, I lose weight and keep it off. There are lots of other things we can do to lose weight, but for me, consistency is more key than not eating certain things.

December 28, 200817 yr I recommend the Smart Ones meals. RTS told me about them, and I've eaten those for almost all my breakfasts and dinners since August. They're REALLY good, and come in a huge variety. They make it so much easier to cut your calories. A typical meal runs anywhere from 210 to 290 calories. I have one of those and one of the breakfasts every day. Then I cut out all (except for the rare sneak snack) in-between meal snacks. I also drink only diet drinks, skim milk or Tropicana's Lite orange juice. I'm not the kind that can eat salads, and all the stereotypical "diet" foods. I also don't like having to measure or weigh my food. I'd rather eat less of food I like than a lot of foods I can't stand. So this plan seems to be working for me.

I am the same way BF, I might try that out.
December 28, 200817 yr I am the same way BF, I might try that out. It's worked for me, when nothing else ever has. I also recommend watching the documentary that comes on every now and then about the super-huge obese people--like 1,000+ pounds. I watched that show a few times and seeing their obsession with food was part of what motivated me to start trying to lose. The other part has to do with a few folks right here on BGP.

And then its easier to cheat. I am bad about snacking, and I like beer. Glad we are starting after New Years lol. I will be having lots of beer and snacks.

Glad we are starting after New Years lol. I will be having lots of beer and snacks. I decided the last time I was on a diet that no diet food tastes great. You should be able to find 5 or 6 diet meals you like, find them and eat them religiously. That's what I did anyway. I like to count calories and when I diet, I keep my calories in the 1000 to 1300 calorie a day area. My last diet went something like this: Breakfast - Fruit Lunch - Turkey sandwich with mustard Dinner - A microwaveable diet meal, grilled chicken with vegetables or some type of grilled chicken salad. I drank a ton of water and for in between meal snacks ate dill pickles, green beans or the 100 calorie bags of popcorn.

But you can't even tell these are low calorie. The portions are a little smaller than you might be used to. I think that's part of the secret to making it work. Just try one--I promise, you'll like them. :thumb:
