December 24, 200817 yr I have several.. My homemade tacos...we had them last night... they are very different. Chicken and dumplings with fresh leaf lettuce You definitely need to bring some of that up here to NKU when you come up for the 10th Region tournament. LOL. For me, it was always my grandma's chili or hamburger vegetable stew (this is just like vegetable beef stew but with hamburger...obviously). I also always loved her potato salad and when she passed away, I was the only one that completely remembered the recipe since I would have to help her during her last couple years due to rheumatoid arthritis messing her hands up. To be honest with everyone, I haven't had a good homecooked meal since Thanksgiving of last year when I spent the afternoon with a member of BGP and his family since I couldn't get back home for the holiday.
December 24, 200817 yr Yeah! I've heard that's kind of a local thing. It isn't popular in other parts of the country. Throw it all in the crock pot and enjoy, it's very easy to prepare.
December 24, 200817 yr Others that make the short list: Corned beef (can substitute Polish sausage), cabbage and potatoes. Homemade chili and grilled cheese sandwiches. Spaghetti with Greek salad and garlic bread. And my personal favorite growing up in MD - a crab feast.
December 24, 200817 yr I love some cottage ham, green beans and taters. I just read this and it made my stomach growl.
December 24, 200817 yr Line the crock pot with lots of dried beef...Wrap some chicken breasts with bacon, put them in the pot and pour in some cream of mushroom and onion soup.... Quick and easy....
December 25, 200817 yr My wife makes a egg plant parmigian to die for, but while I love it, my Grandmother made apple dumplings with a white sauce that I can still taste, even though she died in 1983. My Grandmother in fact gave my wife the recipe, but it just doesn't taste the same..
December 25, 200817 yr Soup beans, cornbread, buttermilk, onion, fried taters.....and a crock pot roast. No wonder I have to take 10 different kinds of cholesterol medicine, LOL.
December 25, 200817 yr My grandmother made homemade apple stack cakes. I have the recipe in a family cook book. I also picked up a recipe on a post card from the Apple Barn last summer in TN.
December 25, 200817 yr I love the taco salad that my wife makes. She browns ground beef then adds taco seasoning. Next she has shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese in separate containers. Instead of taco shells we use Doritos. Spread everything over a plate of Doritos and then pour on some taco sauce. Good eating!!!
December 25, 200817 yr Biscuits and gravy .....mmmmmmmm:thumb: Maybe this is a regional thing. Back in the 70s, my future wife and I visited one of her roomies, who was from Pike County. They had biscuits and chocolate gravy.
December 25, 200817 yr Crock pot roast, potato, onion, and carrots. Part of the reason I need to join to BGPreps Biggest Loser Contest!

December 26, 200817 yr Fried cornbread, buttermilk and onion all combined in a bowl. Yum! I don't know too many people other than my leslie and bell Co. kin folk that eat this. I love cornbread and buttermilk, but I've never combined onions in the bowl. Sounds good and I think I'll try it.
