When you school is playing a game that you are 99.9% they are going to get whacked big time in do you still go to the game?

 

Let's take that one more step and say your team plays that team or teams each year and they are never close in those games. How long as a fan do you keep going to that game?

 

If the team is ever going to improve and have the potential to be a consistent winner, you must attend the games and show your support to the program. In every formula that successful teams use, community support is a huge factor. If you/the community does not support the program, the program will never succeed.

I think the predictions, discussions and even the arguments on here every year shows that the hardcore fans always believe their team has a chance to win. I for one have great respect for those fans for supporting their programs and more than that for supporting the kids!

I know of one very high profile poster from this site that skipped a game where the team they follow was in because there were better games around. The game in which I am speaking about was played almost in this posters back yard.

Yes, see Trinity vs SK. Shoot SK had more fans there than T did.

I agree with you 100% on this. It doesn't matter the miles or the outcome, you have to support the players and let them know that you believe in them.

 

Yep. I remember the dark times, the years where Trinity wasn't assured of scoring a single point in a game. I may have missed one or two games back then to take in a good Fern Creek/St. X game or Male/St. X. The Rocks were never in a position before a game kicked off being 99.9% sure of getting whacked! (except for the 1995 contest vs Ben Davis from Indy played on a Saturday afternoon at old Cardinal Stadium) Usually, the games I missed between 1975 and 1987 were the one's Trinity was heavily favored to win.

Then I decided to commit whole-heartedly to every game Trinity plays and have not missed a varsity contest since the road trip to Paducah in August 1988 (the first game of the 50 game streak).

I went to a game a few years ago when I just KNEW the team I was cheering for was gong to get whacked, and good. Turned out, I saw the biggest upset in the state that year in a double OT thriller. When the team I was cheering for scored first and took the lead early, I remember taking a picture of the scoreboard so that the boys would have something positive to remember from that game. I am just glad that the team did not have the same attitude I had in believing they would get taken out to the woodshed. It may have been the most exciting HS game I have ever been to.

 

The bottom line is that you must support your team.

Game at home- I go.

Game away - flip a coin.

If you have a son playing it's a no brainer... you go no matter what. I'm sure if SK and T played again this week they would have another big turnout due to loyal fans. BTW, I don't think they outnumbered T. The SK crowd was spread out more on that side of the field, the T fans were bunched up more between the 35's. ALso, T had many up in the B&W Club.

From the time I was in 8th grade til the time I was a senior I never missed a single game home or away for Boone Co. (I was not on the football team) I still go to most their games now unless they are far away.

I would not have a pulse to miss one of my son's games regardless of who they play. When he graduates next year, I will still go to a local HS game simply because I love HS football. :ylsuper:

When my oldest son started playing football in high school, I was so upset because I hated football. I grew up on basketball and that's all I thought there was. My high school did not have a football team. My first football game I attended was Prestonsburg vs Russell. I hated every second of it.

After 4 years of my oldest son and now 2 more with my youngest son, I really like football. I love watching college games and I really like watching high school football. But as far as my loyalty to Greenup County High School football, I can say this I drove one weekend this year over 600 miles so that I could see my sons game at Letcher County(I'm involved in Boy Scouting) and I wouldn't miss a game for anything. I know I will be going to some games this next year, how many I don't know but I have finally learned to like football(love it a little).

I was not talking as a parent or one who has a family member playing.

I was talking solely as a fan of a certain team.

Talk about a waste of money!

Most Raceland games I attend, I think we have a chance to win. However, there have been some that I did not expect Raceland to win, but I think it is even more important for the team for the fans to be there for those games. Raceland wins most games, and one tough lose could be very hard on a team for the season, so by having support during those tough loses, could be important to encourage the team, and tell let them know that one lose did not mean dooms day for the season.

 

Travel time and distance has never been to much of a deterrent for me, in fact, I like some of the away games and trips. Especially, if it is a place that we don't go very often. I look for to it and we make it a day long event, getting ready for the trip, stopping and eating, getting to the field early and socializing. I enjoy the experience.
