I spoke with my son when he arrived back at Fort Cambell. He told me that the NCC players didn't want to come to mid-field and shake hands. He told me that NCC coaching staff had to tell them to get out there.

 

Now, I'm not saying that my son is a liar, but sometimes things at that level get a bit exaggerated. It could have been one thing, and by the time it got to him.....that's what it ended up being.

 

Can anyone shed some light on this?

 

I don't know for a fact, but, I would imagine that Coach Schneider gave FC a chance to enjoy the victory and for his players to regain their composer. I did notice that when the teams did shake hands that there was a deep respect for each other. One of the FC coaches gave a long, consoling embrace to Mark Kelly which showed a lot of class in my book.

 

As for the FC quarterback, A Andrews, all I can say is WOW. He seemed to be dinged up and was still the best player on the field. I would love to see him play when he is 100% healthy.(But not against NCC.)

 

I would like to congratulate NCC senior, Ben Parr, on an outstanding game. He made clutch plays on offense and defense and deserved the recognition that he got.

I also want to give cudos to Mark Kelly and Robbie Kues on gutting it out with injuries they sustained. Robbie dislocated his left shoulder again. The preliminary report on Mark Kelly is a partial tear of his MCL. Both teams left it all on the field today which made for a great, great championship game.

Here’s a breakdown of the 17 penalties Newport Central Catholic incurred in Saturday’s 26-23 loss to Ft. Campbell in the Class 2A State Championship:

 

• 11 false starts

• 1 offside on a kickoff

Just an observation and probably not correct, but it looked to me that NCC was trying to go with a silent snap count.. If so, could that have led to most of the false starts.... It was hard to tell from the stands...

I think you're right. From the Cincinnati Enquirer:

 

“When Robbie hollers, ‘Hike,’ the center is supposed to snap it right away, but I think he couldn’t hear that well because of the noise and our linemen were already firing out,” said Schneider. “(The linemen) are supposed to look in (toward the center) in that situation, but we didn’t handle that very well.”

It wasn't THAT loud on the field. They may have overthunk that one and should have stayed with a normal snap count. But who knows. The normal snap count hurt them a few times last year.

They were very athletic. Next year they will be one of the best teams in the state regardless of class as they only lose something like 5 players.

I respectfully tryed to point out all year that FC was very athletic and very fast. (a whole different level of fast compared to last year) Most in N. Kentucky brushed off my assertions and lent very little respect for the 2A power from the Western end of KY. The evidence was in the BGP poll prior to the game where the numbers were heavily in the favor of NCC.

 

I can't wait until next year when this group of athletes is able to sprinkle in some experience with their skills.

Not really sure about it....but after witnessing some pretty dirty plays from the Ft. Campbell side, I can't really blame them. I know that NCC started fighting back after they were provoked but I honestly do not feel that Ft. Campbell is a very sportmanship like team. Great football players....don't get me wrong. And congrats on their great season....but I watched quite a few incidents that left me shaking my head. For instance, not very classy to go to the opponents bench and talk smack. Not very classy to start throwing punches at an O-lineman while he was down. Of course no penalties were called. I can totally accept a loss but the whole demeanor of the game left a bad taste in my mouth. I do realize that NCC had one personal foul and I totally agree that it was ridiculous and should not have happened. I think he was just reacting to the many dirty plays that had been going on. No excuse. He should have kept his head together. There is a reason why NCC received recognition by the KHSAA for Excellence in Sportsmanship. BTW, I didn't notice much of a delay.

So not only are you saying Ft. Campbell played dirty, but your saying the refs let them get away with it? Classic...

I was watching objectively. Were you at the game? Could you hear the player screaming obscenities and insults? I won't call him out by number because he is just a high school player. But yes, there was A LOT of shoving and disrespect on that field yesterday. Not saying the refs "let" them get away with it. Actually, a lot of what they were doing was probably "legal". However, in my opinion (and it is just that), Ft. Campbell did not play with a lot of class. And in fairness, I wasn't happy that NCC responded to their antagonizing.

Funny how it started out as a question of NCC's sportsmanship by having a delay in the congratulatory handshakes at the end of the game. Let's face it....BOTH teams were being too "scrappy" in my opinion. It's a sport..........get out there and get the job done without resorting to shoving and name calling. Trust me, if I observed an NCC player goading Ft. Campbell's bench I would be equally disgusted. I was disgusted with the face mask grabbing that NCC got called on. I am not being a sore loser. I just expect a bit more respect on the field towards each other.

Ft. Campbell was a very respectful team in their visit to Monroe Co. in fact, they were one of the most respectful teams we played all year...

This is the fourth straight championship game that NCC has been to. I've been to all of them to watch my younger brothers play

 

It actually was NCC Mayfield in 2005, Danville in 2006, then Fort Campbell in 2007 and 2008.

With 6 classes look for these teams to continue to go to state finals. Look at what happened this year 5 out of 6 champions went Back to Back
