Willie Parker should not be in the Poll. Brian Westbrook deserves to be considered one of the top backs ever. However he's not a flashy media guy so he doesn't get much love outside of the city of brotherly love. Also as someone else had said earlier. Marshall Faulk should likely also be mentioned. I don't think that either of these guys are the best, but they're definitely top 10, maybe top 5.

Faulk has been added and I'm guessing, but Parker was just a little humor by 'Doc.

My vote is for Barry Sanders, but in a couple of years it could be LT.

Barry Sanders.

I've always said that Barry Sanders was the best, and I say that in conjunction with not meaning any disrespect to any of the other greats. He was fun to watch and can actually be crowned as the most elusive runner of all time. He was able to accomplish amazing statistics over the course of ten seasons just like all the great backs in the NFL, but did it with an extremly mediocre team; again for ten seasons. Thats consistency. To me, he was the symbol of the professional football player. No TD dances, no off-field distractions, just playing football.

Earl Campbell was one of the backs I least liked to see my guys play against, and one I thoroughly enjoyed watching against other folks. When he ran over Lambert on the goal line, I knew he was a beast. For a stretch of a few years, he was the best in the league, IMO. Probably won't garner much support on that one, just a personal preference.:thumb:

 

 

Campbell is probably my favorite, along with Walter Payton.

 

But I'd say #1 is definitely Barry Sanders. He only had one year under 1,200 yards and thats because he only played in 11 games. #2 - #5 could be argued day after day after day.

 

I do have a question for the thread starter. Why no LaDanian Tomlinson one of the selections. In my opinion he is in the 2-5 range.

Okay, for those who don't know my disdain for fast Willie at times and how he is part of the reason the Steeler running identity has change,,,,,it was a joke no doubt. I don't disagree with adding Faulk. I don't think we can put LT in the all time greats just yet, IMO.

I went with Sanders, but I'm curious why Marcus Allen didn't make the list.

I used to think the same but he's not really been highlight material this year. Could be the down hill slide. Come to think of it Faulk was the same way only difference was he made it to the big show.

I grew up watching Earl Campbell. While I LOVE the Bus and could cheer for him no matter who he played for, ... I have to say that Earl Campbell was better. I was a Steelers fan growing up and he was the one back who scared me to death anytime the Steelers played the Oilers.

 

I did love to watch him play, with the exception of him playing the Steelers. I remember when Houston played Pitt in the AFC championship and the Steel curtain held the big EC to under 50 yards rushing. In my opinion I think the Bus was just as good for a longer period of time.
